This is just plain silly. I'm not going to bother looking up that article in the Atlantic, but it's a great read. Based on this, we can see that negotiation with ISIS is not going to happen. They are forbidden by their version of Islam from seeking peace. If the calif does, he loses his legitimacy. He can make no peace treaties that last more than 10 years and has to be at war on at least one front constantly.

This is a HUGE weakness for ISIS. Stand back and let the Arab world crush them.

I think the US and the West will have to play a supporting role in this. Primarily air support and logistics. Not to mention keeping the UN and the rest of the world off their back. But this things goes a lot smoother if the Arab world fights ISIS. It keeps it from becoming a "Islam vs the West" war.

And't don't get too picky about how they do it. Some areas of the world need "brutal dictators". Iraq and Syria are apparently two of these areas.

I am very much a conservative and have voted as such for almost all of my life. The only democrat I've ever voted for (at any level)was Jimmy Carter for president (I know, a big mistake), but I was 18 and wanted a "southerner" in the white house, even if he was democrat.

That being said, this kind of post scares the hell out of me. Do you actually believe that our president supports terrorism? That is the farthest from the truth. You (and I) may not like Obama for his stance on domestic policy, but he's not going to support terrorism or take any action on foreign policy that, in his opinion, is contrary to the interest of the US and its citizens. You need to step back from the ledge and understand that half of what Rush Limbaugh spouts is right wing BS no different than Al Sharpton with his left wing BS. To them it is all about stirring up controversy to get public and media attention, and ultimately to get paid.

If we have to opportunity to take out ISIS, I have no doubt that we will, regardless who the president is. Also, if you have trouble knowing the difference between "there" and "their," you should not be posting positions on US foreign policy, IMHO.

I disagree with a passive stance on terrorism (particularly of the violent nature) that's both threatening domestic and abroad. If that's "blind political affiliation" then so be it.

I read the whole thing. He didn't rationalize terrorism. He basically said, in a nice way, that poor, uneducated, ignorant people who have no hope are being suckered into thinking this Jihad crap is the only way to legitimize their pathetic existence in life.

Basically power/money hungry bad guys like Al-Q and nut job religious zealots like ISIS are both feeding on the same thing...and ignorant group of poor folk begging for a reason to live.

The "legitimate grievance" is the fact that these poor (I mean they have not money) suckers blowing up themselves or sawing off heads don't have much to live for, so they are low hanging fruit. I think our Prez was just highlighting the truth......we can destroy ISIS, but with no sound government, no stable economy, no education, then another crazy group will fill the void......and the new group will cite the US's destruction of ISIS and constant intervention over there as the reason for more zealotry......it's a never ending cycle and we can't learn our lesson.

I truly feel sorry for you people that think that there is a clear right/wrong way to deal with such a complex issue. Somehow blowing everybody up will fix it.

ISIS is a completely different terrorist cell and its' nothing like we've seen in our lifetime. The POTUS' remarks are out of touch and completely antiquated. And before I get accused of towing "party lines" again, I am economically conservative and socially liberal and vote Libertarian.

Tiger, yes I read it all and your point is well taken as such. My point is two fold in this response. First you are correct that the suicide bomber's and such are for the most part uneducated poor who are recruited for that reason. Maybe if we bring western job' and culture to them we could thwart the flow of suicide attacks. however, isis or isil or whatever they are going by now is incredibly well financed. There, ooohhhhps, their, leadership is very well educated. This is not a bunch high school drop outs who had nothing to do and because they were poor and uneducated and bored decided to start Jihad.
