Entitlement Question

The article below popped up on my phone just now. It’s clearly slanted a certain direction, but there are a few policy changes I’d like the board to weigh in on. The article thinks these are bad because some people may lose eligibility for food stamps, but they seem exceedingly logical.

  1. Raising the age limit for work requirements for adults without dependents from 50 to 56. I honestly don’t understand the issue here. Why on earth should a 52 year old with no kids in the house NOT be required to work in order to receive free stuff from the government? That makes zero sense.
  2. Currently, adults 18-49 with a minor dependent in the house (<18) are excused from work requirements. The proposal is to change the age from 17 to 7. Again, why would perfectly capable adults, who have children in FULL TIME SCHOOL, not have to work 20 hours per week. My 1st grade is in school 7.25 hours per day not counting after school. That’s 36 hours you could be working, or shit, work the minimum 20 and screw around for 16 hours a week.

Some of the resident bleeding hearts are going to have to help me understand the objection here. Because these seem super reasonable.

Excerpt:

McCarthy’s plan, which includes $4.5 trillion in spending cuts, would raise the age limit for SNAP’s work requirements for “abled bodies individuals” without dependents from 50 to 56. Such a change, if signed into law, could affect nearly 1 million Americans ages 50 to 55, the nonpartisan research and policy institute Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates.

Currently, people 18 through 49 who don’t have children are required to work or participate in a work program for at least 20 hours a week to receive benefits through SNAP unless they qualify for exemptions. Those who don’t meet the minimum work hours requirement are limited up to three months of benefits every three years.

Households with dependents 17 and younger are among those excused from SNAP’s work requirements and three-month time limit. But such an exemption is also at risk of being eliminated.

More: 23 Republicans want to make it harder to get SNAP benefits. Here's how.

Nearly two dozen House Republicans co-sponsored legislation in March that would impose stricter work requirements for able-bodied adults without children, making it harder for some Americans to receive food stamps.

The bill, led by South Dakota Rep. Dusty Johnson, would narrow a work requirement exemption for households with children, allowing only those with children under 7 to qualify instead of the current cutoff of 18. The legislation also would raise the maximum age like in the debt limit plan, but from 49 to 65 – a more drastic increase than McCarthy’s plan.

Congrats to Clemson legend Oguchi Onyewu

He just got appointed as the VP of Sporting for the U.S. Soccer Federation. His job is to be a liaison between the national teams and the clubs/leagues our national team players play for.

Oguchi is a Clemson legend and the best player we've ever produced.
2x All-ACC
Clemson Hall of Fame
2x World Cup Player
Played in Europe for a good chunk of his career.

Unfortunately his career got cut short by injuries particularly a bad patellar tendon injury.

Is it OK for a President to lie this way?

I'm sure we've been told that it's really bad if a president lies all the time. So why is it that almost no one is covering yet another horrendous lie told by our president?

The last president lied all the time and exaggerated things. That was supposed to be so horrible that we could just not tolerate it as a country which I actually agree with. This president just makes things up that never happened to try to make himself look like something more than he really is. He is on record having done that his entire adult life. He was even cast aside by the media in the 1980's over it. But now it's seemingly okay.

I long for a time when we get back to having fundamental principles that matter regardless of who said something or when it happened. When it's not about politics and instead is about things that are for more important which are not subject to a political agenda.

GO TIGERS!!

Sports Betting Article on Sports Betting WSJ

Interesting. Hold (winning) on single-game bets is about 5% for betting services. Parlays (multi-game bets) increase the hold rate to about 25% and increase the betting services rate of winning by 500%. Also, in-game betting increases the bettors engagement, which also can lead to more severe loses and could promote addiction. Not really news for gambling hobbyists, but good info for the novices.

**New** Bakich weighs in on year one, midseason turnaround

Grayson Mann, an intern who is working with Tigerillustrated.com this year, sat down with Erik Bakich the other day for this interview.

Great job, Grayson!

***** Valerie Cagle

---

Release from Clemson:

Cagle named ACC POY

Clemson redshirt junior Valerie Cagle was named ACC Player of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday. This marks Cagle’s second ACC Player of the Year honor and third postseason ACC nod after being selected as the Freshman and Player of the Year in 2021 and being a first team selection in 2022..

Cagle also earned First-Team All-ACC honors. Four Tigers, Caroline Jacobsen (OF), Alia Logoleo (SS), Ally Miklesh (OF) and Millie Thompson (LHP) garnered Third-Team All-ACC accolades.

Cagle (Yorktown, Va.) is hitting .465 with 18 home runs, one triple and 14 doubles. She tallied 53 RBIs, scored 46 runs and drawn 27 walks while maintaining a .917 slugging percentage and .554 on-base percentage with five stolen bases through 53 regular-season games. Being a dual threat, Cagle also maintains a 1.22 ERA through 32 appearances with seven solo shutouts and three saves. She has 22 wins in the circle and struck out 165 batters in 161 innings of work.

Cagle’s dominance on the diamond has resulted in her setting the single-season program record for home runs, throwing the team’s first perfect game (Mercer, March 8) and completing an immaculate inning needing only nine pitches to strike out three batters in a single inning against Georgia Tech (March 24). A six-time ACC weekly award honoree, three as player and three as pitcher, Cagle was also named a USA Softball Player of the Year Top 10 Finalist earlier this month.

Jacobsen (Tallahassee, Fla.) has been the Tigers’ starting right fielder and cleanup hitter all season. She holds a .316 average with 48 hits, including 12 doubles and 11 home runs, 41 RBIs, 35 runs, seven stolen bases, a .612 slugging percentage and .397 on-base percentage. A graduate transfer, she earned her first All-ACC postseason honor after contributing 52 putouts and four assists.

Logoleo (Nashville, Tenn.) has made a home for herself at shortstop clocking 52 putouts and 129 assists. The redshirt junior is batting .293 through 53 games with 43 hits, including eight doubles and eight home runs, 46 RBIs, 29 runs and 14 stolen bases. She holds a .510 slugging percentage and .367 on-base percentage with three sac flies and three sac bunts. This is Logoleo’s fourth postseason All-ACC honor after garnering second team and all-freshmen accolades in 2021 and third team in 2022.

Miklesh (Stevens Point, Wis.) is fourth on the team with a .331 average through 52 appearances. She has stolen 18 bases after clocking 39 hits and drawing 24 walks. She has contributed four doubles, one triple and one home run to maintain a .466 on-base percentage with 11 RBIs. The graduate transfer contributed 42 putouts in left field to earn her second conference honor, first in the ACC, after being a Second Team All-Big Ten selection in 2022.

Thompson (Bedford, Va.) garners her third All-ACC honor after being a third team selection in 2022 and all-freshman honors in 2021. Holding a 1.68 ERA with 12 victories, including five solo shutouts, the junior has only allowed 13 extra-base hits this season in 18 appearances. She has struck out 68 batters through 83.1 innings of work while only giving up 14 walks.

The Tigers return to the field to begin action at the ACC Championship on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. on the ACC Network in the Quarterfinals. No. 3 seed Clemson will face No. 6 seed North Carolina in the final game of the day.

UGA going to court

Looks like they aren't gonna settle the Willock case and instead will take it to court. Bad look for UGA football.

UGA statement from last night:

“The attorneys who filed the complaint have refused to provide any factual basis for their claims against the Athletic Association, and we believe the evidence will prove them to be without merit,” a statement from the athletic association read. “We intend to strongly dispute these baseless allegations in Court.”

Former Hollywood Liberal Explains Why She Walked Away From the Democrats and Became a Conservative Christian in EPIC Video

There is still hope. People getting red pilled and waking up from the hypnotic slumber on a daily basis.

Natalie-Jean-Beisner.jpg

A woman named Natalie Jean Beisner, who claims that she had a political conversion during the COVID pandemic, recently released a video that has gone viral.
Beisner claims that she is a former actress who lives in Hollywood and has been saved, and is now a conservative Christian.
She talks about the damage of the COVID lockdowns and the hypocrisy of allowing the radical left to riot after small business owners were forced to close.

In her video, she makes it clear that she does not expect others to agree with her religious conversion, but stresses the idea that the radical left must be opposed.
Read: Dr. Peter McCullough On "The Holy Grail Of COVID-19 Vaccine Detoxification"
She associates her political change with the Walk Away Movement, which was started by Brandon Straka.
Here is a partial transcript of her video, from her own tweet:
I have been a Democrat my entire life. I live in Los Angeles. I was an actress for years. I voted for Obama, then Clinton. I couldn’t wait to vote against the ban on gay marriage. I supported Planned Parenthood. I called JK Rowling “TERF.” I read books like THE NEW JIM CROW in an attempt to “educate” myself. I was a Democrat through-and-through, and more than that—I was even onboard with wokeism, with equity (as opposed to equality), with intersectional feminism, etc. These people had me pretty much hook, line, and sinker.
Then in Summer 2020 I was encouraged to go out and engage in “firey but mostly peaceful protests” but was told it was still unsafe for me to go to work. That didn’t make sense. Nothing around me made any sense whatsoever. And I really needed to go back to work.
Whenever I brought this up, I was told I was being selfish or even “racist.” Indeed, whenever I saw talk—whether online or on corporate news—of those who took issue with lockdowns, it was always framed as an issue of selfishness, even of racism. For some reason, liberal folks had this idea that anyone remotely concerned over lockdowns was a wealthy white woman who was just bored and wanted to get her hair and nails done.
I felt like screaming at everyone, “who do you think does hair and nails?” Hairdressers and nail artists, whose jobs are ESSENTIAL TO THEM. Everyone is an “essential worker” to himself and the people who may depend upon him.
What bothered me the most wasn’t that these people disagreed with me, or that they had different ideas on how best to handle covid or BLM unrest—what bothered me the most was that they absolutely refused to recognize I might have any honest reasons for disagreeing with them.

This woman’s experience is undoubtedly shared by millions of other Americans.

I've always said I'd follow goat roping if Clemson competed in it. I just read...

that Women's Club Rugby won D1 Club NC with 2 veterans and 22 rookies. I don't give a shit what it is, their 2 rookie coaches that played at Clemson did a helluva job. I played club soccer. Had never played before. I had some great times with those dudes. We'd drive back and we'd open the van door and it looked like the Fast Times @ Ridgemont High Sean Penn scene. Good job ladies.

Father of UGA football player killed in car wreck seeking $2 million in damages from university

Father of Georgia football player killed in car wreck seeking $2 million in damages from university

By: Tyler Greenawalt - Yahoo! Sports

The father of Georgia offensive lineman Devin Willock reportedly filed a lawsuit against the university for the wrongful death of his son, according to ESPN's Mark Schlabach. Dave Willock seeks $2 million in damages — the maximum a state agency can be sued under Georgia law — after his son died in a fatal car crash in the early morning of Jan. 15 after the Bulldogs won the College Football Playoff national championship.

Police claim Willock and Georgia recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy were killed after LeCroy crashed her SUV into two power poles and trees during an alleged car race with then-Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter. Willock reportedly wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was sitting behind LeCroy in the backseat.

Carter, one of the top NFL draft prospects this year, reportedly received 12 months probation, must pay a $1,000 fine, must perform 80 hours of community service and finish a driving course as his sentence for his role in the crash, but won't go to jail.

Former Georgia offensive lineman Warren McClendon and another female staffer, Tory Bowles, were injured but survived.

Willock's lawyers suing others

Dave Willock reportedly will also sue the University of Georgia Athletic Association, its employees and LeCroy's estate individually and separately.

His lawyers claim the university knew of LeCroy's driving history, which included four speeding tickets in the past six years. Police said LeCroy's SUV was traveling 104 mph before it crashed that night and her blood alcohol concentration was .197 — almost 2.5 times the legal limit in Georgia. The UGAAA reportedly leased the SUV LeCroy was driving for recruiting purposes, and Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said it was not LeCroy's job to drive players home, nor should she have been driving the night of the crash.

"To be clear, UGA and [University of Georgia Athletic Association] agents and employees negligently entrusted a vehicle to LeCroy," Willock's lawyers wrote. "Likewise, UGA and UGAAA agents and employees negligently hired, supervised, trained, and retained LeCroy.
"Supervisors providing keys, etc. to recruiting assistants for the purpose of entertaining players and recruits over the Championship weekend is clear, but UGA denying those facts in the media after the events is poor form at best. Public comments by the UGA Athletic Director [Josh Brooks], supervisors and administrators diminishing their role in this incident and blaming LeCroy does not lead the way, and it is less than expected."

In response, Georgia spokesman Greg Trevor said the letter from Willock's lawyers "is full of inaccuracies" and "has not provided the university with any sources or evidentiary bases to support these reckless claims."

"As we have made clear, personal use of vehicles rented for recruiting activities was strictly prohibited," the statement read, per ESPN. "Ms. LeCroy was not engaged in athletic department duties around the time of the accident, and her personal use of the car after her recruiting duties ended earlier that evening was therefore unauthorized."

Willock played 15 games for the Bulldogs in 2022 after seeing action sparingly in 2021 and redshirting in 2020. He grew up in New Milford, New Jersey, and went to Paramus Catholic High School.

If you had $1m to live on the SC/NC coast, where would you go?

Friends of mine are thinking of retiring to the SC/NC coast and asked me for suggestions. Apart from not buying on the strip in MB, you could fill what I know about coastal living in a thimble.

They want a house they could have their kids/grandkids visit in the future. Is that really possible with $1m anymore?

PS, they will buy another house in Ohio if that helps fill the buyers requirements.

Syracuse defensive end transfers to South Carolina

Shane Beamer lands Syracuse transfer portal target Jatius Geer

By: Alan Cole - Southcarolina.rivals.com

South Carolinna football has made its first acquisition in the spring transfer portal window, bringing in some help from another power five school.

Syracuse defensive lineman Jatius Geer joined the program on Thursday afternoon, officially announcing his transfer on social media.

Geer redshirted in his true freshman season with the Orange in 2021, but emerged as a key piece of the defensive line in 2022. The 6-foot-6, 233 pound pass rusher appeared in all 13 Syracuse games and started all but one of them last season, totaling up 3.5 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss on the season as part of a Syraucse team which finished the regular season 7-5 and went to the Pinstripe Bowl.

The Anderson, S.C. native will be returning much closer to home to play for Shane Beamer, and will serve as more depth in a room very much in need of it. The Gamecocks have been thin at pass rush since Jordan Burch and Gilber Edmond transferred in the first portal window, likely counting on Jorrdan Strachan off the back of his second ACL surgery to be a key contributor along with the likes of Bryan Thomas Jr., Tyreek Johnson, Terrell Dawkins and Donovan Westmoreland.

Geer joins Jaron Willis and DeAngelo Gibbs as transfer portal pick-ups on the defensive side of the ball.
