Brian Kemp - New NIL-related Executive Order

Georgia governor signs executive order allowing colleges to pay players for their NIL

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed an executive order Tuesday that will allow colleges in the state, including the University of Georgia, to pay players directly for the use of their name, image and likeness.

The executive order bars the NCAA or conferences from punishing schools for such payments. Kemp signed the order which is says will allow state schools to be “on a level playing field,” and should not forgo compensation that would come with being able to pay athletes while a proposed NCAA settlement agreement is in limbo.

This is similar to a law passed in Virginia and signed by Gov. Glenn Youngkin in the spring.

The executive order says that until the settlement is approved and in place, “legislative and executive actions across the country create a patchwork of inconsistent rules regulating intercollegiate athletics.”

Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks and Georgia Tech athletic director J Batt issued a joint statement released by Georgia Tech after the signing of the order.

"We extend our sincere gratitude to Governor Brian Kemp for his leadership today,: the statement said. "In the absence of nationwide name, image and likeness regulation, this executive order helps our institutions with the necessary tools to fully support our student-athletes in their pursuit of NIL opportunities, remain competitive with our peers and secure the long-term success of our athletics programs.”

The NCAA, the Power Five conferences and lawyers for the plaintiffs in three antitrust cases concerning the compensation of college athletes have asked a federal judge in California to provide preliminary approval of a proposed settlement that would include a nearly $2.8 billion damages pool and allow Division I schools would be able to start paying athletes directly for use of their name, image and likeness (NIL), subject to a per-school cap that would increase over time.

However, during a preliminary-approval hearing on Sept. 5, U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken indicated that she would not approve the current version of the proposed deal. While the arrangement would allow schools to start paying athletes, it also would attempt to bring NIL payments under some enforceable rules, and Wilken said during the hearing she has issues with the proposed regulations, calling them "quite strict" and questioning whether they would end up in athletes losing access to payments they have been receiving from collectives.

Wilken and lawyers for the sides agreed that the parties would get back to her by Sept. 26 with what she termed a "prognosis" for the proposed deal.

Susan Smith first parole attempt

According to the Google.com, Susan Smith’s 1st attempt at parole is set on November 4th. Anyone with any insight on her chances of being granted or is it a slam dunk she’ll stay in prison?

I was in middle school at the time but remember the whole thing as much as I remember OJ’s case. Crazy it’s been 30 years but IMO she needs life without parole.

Are we going after any FSU and FL commits?

It is in complete explosion mode down there in Florida, vultures are starting to circle. I know Dabo hasn't went after committed players before, but I think those days need to change. We need to get nasty like everyone else and go after some of these guys with some money and see if there is interest. If we could pick up another top notch OL or 2, a WR, and a DE this would really be a great class. I hate that Duke stole Davis from us. Maybe we should outbid Duke for him, screw them.

FSU
OL Solomon Thomas (#1 OL in country)
OL Peyton Joseph
WR CJ Wiley
WR Daylen Mcatheon
LB Ethan Pritchard
DT Kevin Wynn

FL
WR Vernell Brown (#top 5 in country)
WR Joshua Moore
WR Naeshan Montgomery
DE Jalen Wiggins
DT Jeremiah McCloud

Its Personal

It's personal, do not be confused. For the past few years the so called "tinfoil hats" of the Clemson faithful have been told their perceived anti-Clemson bias in the media was a myth. This past week saw every national media outlet put SCAR and crying Shane Beamer in the golden spotlight of the sport.

From Gameday, to Josh Pate, the week was full Shamecock propaganda. Meetings with the Mayor, Beamer, and sunshine pumping every corner of their program. It must be highlighted that McAfee and Pate are personal friends/acquaintances with Beamer, so some bias can be expected. Oddly, every aspect of the SCAR program was mentioned except one.

The Palmetto State Rivalry. No mention of Clemson to get a loud pop of from a rowdy crowd? Not even once? Not one mention of the upstate across any TV program. When is the last time you talked about Bama without mentioning the Iron bowl? Ohio State without Michigan? Texas without Oklahoma? Not a single mention of a great college rivalry, one that spans across all sports.

None of this is news to anyone paying attention, but if you haven't been, I hope you start. Do not let them convince you otherwise, the animosity towards Clemson is personal. Regardless, SCAR puked on its shoes on a national stage (Again) and we move on to NC State. Go Tigers.

Northeast schools finally playing some football for the ACC

I never thought I would say this, but Syracuse, BC, and Pitt are all playing some solid football right now. BC went toe to toe with #6 Mizzou, Syracuse is undefeated, and Pitt is undefeated after knocking of WV. Glad to see these schools starting to play some football again. All of them used to be solid programs at one point in the Big East. What is crazy is that Miami is also playing lights out as well and so is Louisville. All of these long time Big East schools are starting to come around after 15-20 years or so in the league. VT had a snafu but was supposed to be better this year and may still be as the season goes on. In addition, CAL is 3-0 and Stanford has played solid football up until this point and are much better than folks thought. They came close to knocking off a big time Big 12 program early in the season. These schools have been using the portal to get better players because they traditionally outside of Miami haven't been able to recruit with the big boys. The portal has allowed them to pick up better players from the Big10 and SEC and it is starting to create more parity in the ACC. This may be a really crazy year for the ACC to see who ends up in the championship game. Right now, it looks like Clemson and Miami, but there are a lot of teams that will have something to say about that.
