Future of the running back position

The direction the game is taking at the pro level will have a direct impact of taking the best athletes for the running back position wanting to play another position.

The idea of an elite talent like Josh Jacobs or Sequan Barkley becoming essentially disposable after their rookie deals expire seems tragic. If you want to last in the NFL as a running back, you almost have to be a receiver first and a back second, even then its just not likely you will get the money to stick around.

Uof latest baseball transfer ??

Last season at Marist, the right-handed pitcher bounced between starter and reliever–17 appearances and nine starts–with an 8.70 ERA and a 1.93 WHIP. Quinn struggled sometimes with walks (43) but he did have some strikeout stuff last season as well.

He finished with 73 strikeouts in 50.2 innings, which averages out to 13 strikeouts per nine innings with him striking out 27.3 percent of batters faced last season.

Opposing teams hit .272 against him last season.

If he can clean up some of the walks, then Quinn can certainly chisel out a role in the Gamecocks’ bullpen next season in need of a few guys to step up. His fastball has been up to 95 miles per hour this summer while pitching in the Cape Cod League.

His best season at Marist came as a freshman when he had a 5.40 ERA in just 1.2 innings. In 2022, he threw 23.1 innings with a 6.56 ERA in 16 appearances (two starts). He struck out 30 to 15 walks.

Chad Kelly - Argonauts

Chad Kelly signed one of the most bizarre incentive based contracts with the Toronto Argonauts. In 2022 he ended up making a base salary of $67,000 plus $12,000 in housing money. He got an additional $8,500 for being the primary back up for 17 games. For playing 51 percent of the snaps in the final game of the season he got $3333.33. Being on the active roster with Argos winning the division he got $3,400. Winning the East Final was $3,600 and the Grey Cup was $16,000. In total he made $101,833.33 plus $12,000 in housing money in 2022.

For 2023 his salary went up to $75,000 plus $12,000 housing. Each time he plays 51 percent of the snaps he collects $3333.33 so after three games he has added $9999.99 to his contract so far. Here is what the rest of his bonuses will be…….

$1,500 if he passes for 1,000 yards
$3,000 if he passes for 2,000 yards
$5,000 if he passes for 3,000 yards
$10,000 if he passes for 4,000 yards
$15,000 if he passes for 5,000 yards
$5,000 if he finishes top-3 in CFL TD passes
$5,000 if he finishes top-3 in CFL passing yards.
$2,500 if he is named an East Division all-star, a $5,000 bonus if he is named a CFL all-star
$15,000 bonus if he is named the league’s Most Outstanding Player

One thing Kelly has put above stats that will net him more money is winning. This in a market where the Maple Leafs have 3 players taking up 38% of the teams salary cap, the Blue Jays have a $213 million dollar player payroll, the Raptors pay Pascal Siakam $38 million per season and the TFC’s Lorenzo Insgine and Federico Bernadeschi make 500% more than the rest of the roster combined.

They say that sports is a result based business, the Kelly led Argonauts are 3-0 and have looked comfortable in the process. In a city with grossly paid athletes, Chad Kelly is earning every dollar he makes. Toronto Argonaut fans this is your quarterback.

TV on screened in Porch

Moving to Pawleys in a week - Have a screened in porch (facing west, with good tree line to block setting sun in afternoon) based on previous posts, I was just planning on putting my old 65" TV out there, with a cover rather than investing in an expensive "outdoor" model. Has anyone done this? how long will it last in the humidity? same question for a cable box? with prices so low, even if it only lasts a year or so, I could replace 2-3 times for the cost of a new outdoor model

Gal Luft Versus China Joe and China Hunter

DOJ FBI and Biden Administration charges one of the witnesses with crimes

This will be interesting on how this intimidation works

China Joe and Hunter Biden already taking money as agents of the Chinese Communist Party

How much worse can it be than being spies for China and foreign governments on their payroll

I will continue to be amazed at the stupidity of the average American parasitic 50 per cent or so who pay no taxes and grovel at the federal government hog trough filled regularly by the liberal leftist socialist race baiting fear and hate mongering Democratic party

There are good Democrats left so please take back the reins of your party

TUESDAY UPDATE III
By: Larry Williams & Grayson Mann

(From today's media outing in Clemson. Some initial notes/quotes from Clemson's offensive coaches. Dabo Swinney to come later today).

GARRETT RILEY (Grayson)

-- Said Beaux Collins will hit the ground running. Physically he looks great and has really stood out during throwing sessions this summer.

-- Said Cade Klubnik is a competitor. The moment isn't too big for him. He said there will be some growing pains that come from his lack of starting experience.

-- He wants this offense to have a more physical approach with everything.

-- Said Jake Briningstool will have a lot on his plate with the new offense. He wants him to make an impact in the passing game, but he also has to be dependable run-blocking.

THOMAS AUSTIN (Larry)

-- Austin told me Tristan Leigh exited the spring with a slight lead over Collin Sadler at left tackle. And he said it won't necessarily be just those two vying for the starting spot.

Blake Miller will also factor into that competition, though right tackle better suits his athleticism. And of course Marcus Tate can play left tackle.

Austin said he'd like to settle on a starting five about a week into camp, after the first major scrimmage.

-- Austin said one of his main objectives is to get the backup linemen in early in the season. Of course they went into the past two seasons with the same idea but it didn't really happen, particularly last year.

He said he has to "force that issue" early this season by throwing the backups in.

-- Will Putnam recently ran a 5K with strength staffer Paul Hogan and ran a 10-minute-mile pace. Not bad for a 315-pounder.

-- Austin related an observation recently made by Joey Batson: This offensive line has layers of leadership, and that's what you need to win a championship.

-- Austin said Marcus Tate is as lean as ever. Moves really well.

-- If Miller did emerge as the best option at left tackle, Austin said he'd have no problem kicking Walker Parks back out to right tackle.

-- As we mentioned on the message board, Dietrick Pennington is down to 336 pounds. Also: He had a 3.63 GPA in the spring, which Austin said is the biggest jump he's ever seen in anyone.

TYLER GRISHAM (Larry)

-- Grisham had an eyebrow-raising statement when he was talking about all the possible personnel groupings this offense will run.

"You're going to see 10 personnel this year," he said. "You'll see it for the first time in a long time."

Ten personnel is four receivers and no tight ends. The last time they used it with regularity was the 2018 playoff against Alabama and Notre Dame.

"We've got the dudes who can do it," he said. "We've got the guys who can go out there and make plays."

-- Grisham said the nature of Garrett Riley's offense brings opportunities to roll in a bunch of receivers. He said this is probably the most depth they've had at receiver.

-- Said Beaux Collins has to have a huge year, and he believes he's headed for one. Said he's shown plenty of flashes but has been derailed by injuries, including some nasty shoulder injuries last year that hobbled him for almost the entire season.

-- Some uplifting signs on Troy Stellato.

"He's angry," Grisham said. "He's hungry. He's tired of what has taken place. He looks different. He's ready to go."

He said just a few days ago Stellato sent him a message that said: "I want to show you and everyone else why you brought me here."

Said Stellato, who suffered a torn ACL last August, is in tip-top shape.

"I'm pumped to see what he's capable of."

-- Grisham is positively fired up about Adam Randall. Said he's been working non-stop on the JUGS machine and catching passes from Cade Klubnik, in addition to the normal team stuff they've been doing.

"He can be one of the best to come through here. I know he wants to be."

Randall was making some eye-opening plays his first spring here, and showing speed on the GPS that just didn't seem possible for a 227-pounder.

Grisham said Randall looks better right now than he did that first spring.

-- He said Cole Turner has taken the next step physically. He's in the high 180s, and close to 190. Grisham likes him at 190 and doesn't want him to get to 200.

"I just need him to run fast and make a play down the field."

DT depth.

Is insane. Davis, Ruke, Page, Capehart, Williams, Story, Burly, Green, and commits HB Schuler and Thompson. It just does not get any nastier than this. You have to understand with this Kind of talent, we will be able to keep fresh players in the game all game with no real drop off in talent. You have to feel sorry for the OC's who we will be going up against this year. You win games with defense.

Costco Tailgate Tents

Was just in the Costco here in Columbia and saw that they had SC tailgate tents for sale, in the past they have always had Clemson too.

Asked an associate if they had any Clemson ones and they said they weren’t sure also asked if they had them in Greenville and they said that inventory varies by store and they couldn’t tell me either.

Any Greenville folks been to Costco this weekend and seen them? TIA.

Looking to pick one up versus having it shipped. My old one bite the dust last year.

History of Hartwell Lake and Clemson

Found this in Greenville News online. History of Hartwell Lake including great photos of Clemson before and during construction of the dam and lake. Including a separate dam to divert the river further from then Clemson College. (Making DKS and a lot more possible).
Hopefully 🤞 no paywall.
