First, let’s review the Season Forecast. I pegged this as a clear 9-3 team as stated in the article. While I missed on the Pitt/Scar game, one can deduce that both were games that could have gone either way by one mere possession. In one game, our QB made the play, in the other, we faltered.
However, I think the biggest miss on my part was underestimating the physicality that Scar would possess, especially in the 12th game of the season. I just couldn’t buy it in August.
As we turn the page on last week and look to the matchup with SMU, this is a spot that Dabo and Clemson have thrived in. And Dabo has made quite a nice living playing the 3-legged underdog.
SMU has had a great season, and Lashlee is a coach who does a great job of putting his players in the most advantageous spot to succeed. I anticipate a program will snag him in the next couple of years.
I could rattle off a bunch of stats. However, this game is going to the team who makes the most big plays. I know, that’s typically the case. But I’m specifically looking for gashes, of 20+ yards and turnovers.
A couple of stats that I did find interesting:
SMU ranks 130th out of 133 in penalties.
SMU ranks 121st out of 133 in fumbles lost.
This probably won’t be popular, but the Clemson offense shows out in surprising fashion, retains the crown, and waltzes in to the playoffs while the gamecock faithful turn their hatred in to slurs of SEC proportions.
Tigers 31
Mustangs 21
