Last year I talked about what an honor it was to attend the game in Philadelphia back in 2012, in support of the visit of then Vice President Joe Biden.
Awesome experience. (Far right, red tie)
Funny story.
The VP sat on the Army side for the first half, and as tradition dictates, moved over to the Navy side for the second half.
It was a close game (like so many are) and in about the middle of the 3rd quarter the VP asked me “Billy, can we go down to the sidelines for the rest of the game?”
“Yes Sir” I replied, “just give us two minutes to secure things down there”
In short order, we were off to the Middies side of the gridiron.
The VP’s son Beau had served in the Army in Iraq, so he was pulling for the Black Knights…quietly.
Fourth quarter comes and Army is driving to either tie the score or go ahead…I don’t remember which, but it was getting intense.
Army broke off a run and the VP started cheering openly for West Point.
I put my hand on his shoulder and said “ Sir, the entire Brigade of Midshipmen is standing right behind you…probably not a good idea to be cheering for Army…considering your position…”
“Yeah Billy…you’re right…thanks” replied the Vice President.
All in day’s work 😂😎
Anyway, enjoy the game.
I know it’s a lot more fun for me knowing that Clemson is the ACC CHAMPION and that they are playing in the CFP.
