Probably because I am a nerd, but I like looking at coordinator's history against one another. Elko was great against CTE/CBS; Venables shut down Paul Johnson once he learned how (also - hammer OU to beat Navy and the under in that bowl game).

So, I looked to see if Riley happened to cross paths with Texas DC Pete Kwiatkowski - and they did once. Good news is TCU won the game in 2022 - so there's that. But TCU's defense won that game. The final score was 17-10.

The pros:
  • Horned Frogs ran for 197 non-sack yards
  • TCU had 228 yards rushing, but lost 38 yards on five sacks and lost 31 more yards on rushes.
  • TCU averaged 5.05 yards rushing (taking sacks out), without using Duggan too much (5 rushes)
  • 11 different WRs had a catch
  • Duggan completed 66% of his passes
  • TCU had 37 minutes of possession
The cons:
  • RB Keandre Miller had a 75 yard run, so taking that out of the 197 drops the YPC to 3.21
  • Five of TCU's 39 carries went for more than 10 yards.
  • Duggan averaged 4.28 yards per attempt
  • Only four of Duggan's passes went for more than 10 yards
Does not give me the warm and fuzzies, but there is a winning formula there: patience. Have to run da bawl, even if we're getting just 3.21 YPC. TCU had five three-and-outs and another four-play job that ended in a punt.
But those six drives ate up 9-minutes, 10-seconds.
