They have no idea what the differences are between communists, socialists, Democratic socialists, progressive Democrats and establishment Democrats. To them, anyone who isn't a QAnon crazy is a commie.
I'd say it's like saying every Republican is a Nazi except, as we're seeing in DC right now, actual Nazis so actually make up a very vocal minority of today's Republican party while actual socialists (not even communists, just socialists) insist that the Democratic Party are a bunch of corporatist shills.
