So I’ve read all these threads and I just want to posit a different question to the board:

If you are conservative/liberal, can you list one thing about your “side” you disagree with and one thing about the “other side” you agree with?

I’ll go first.

As a conservative leaning voter, I think our views on abortion are beyond stupid. Don’t judge, lest you be judged…

On the left, I was damn impressed with Pelosi going to Taiwan and telling China to **** off.

I’m very interested in seeing the responses.

While this is a good post, I think 90% of the posters here know exactly what another would respond 😂

Dems I’d say I agree with their stance on healthcare

Republicans, definitely abortion especially banning in every instance (I.e. including invest, rape, threat to mothers life, etc.)

Along the same lines here too

Abortion should be available but under reasonable circumstances and not unlimited such as up to time of birth and beyond

Taiwan we need to stand behind on all sides

I really believe there are a lit of Democrats who are conservative but the left scares them into submission

Absolutely love Tulsi Gabbard

And my conservative leanings find many Republicans outside the box for me too

I want to always keep an open mind and use reason in every disagreement

civility as much as possible

Pubs- What I hate, Keep the church out of Gov.
What I like, America First agenda. Get our own house in order then we can better help the world.

Dems- What I hate, Attitude that if you dont agree with them your a racist, extreme, and need to be destroyed at all cost and their pro-pedo support.
What I like, Wanting to help low income people and their love of science like I have.

This is my view of the ordinary people not the oligarchy at the top of the gov

It’s amazing the usual suspects that declined to comment on my post. You know who you are. And your hypocrisy is deafening.

is it amazing? You posted this on Sunday evening of Labor Day weekend. Your lack of a life is troubling.

I disagree with student loan forgiveness.

I agree with remain in Mexico policy. It is barbaric and I truly feel terrible for what happens to those immigrants in Mexico (rape, child sex trafficking), but it did encourage people not to come. That was only a stop gap though. Both parties need to come together to change the immigration laws through legislation. Neither party seems interested in doing that.

My thoughts exactly - what makes you think we even saw this post on Sunday night of Labor Day weekend, or that it was a priority?

I wanted to give an honest, respectful response but I mean it when I say I was struggling to come up with something I like about the other side. What is a Republican policy any more is something I am struggling with since Trumpism seems to have little relation to traditional conservative policies.

Having said that, I'll say I'm a little more hawkish than the average Dem and liked the "take the fight to the enemy before they hit you" policy of previous Republican administrations. I have zero sympathy for terrorists, so I didn't have a problem with waterboarding those that were willing to die to destroy innocent Americans. I also liked the stay in Mexico policy with the caveat that we ensure safety for asylum seekers who wait there.

For my side, I'm not at all a fan of the far left wing of my party. I think it's important to hear their voices but I rarely agree with their policy positions.

Dislike from Dems:
Student loan forgiveness-I’m Not totally opposed to some kind of relief, but just cutting a check to people without addressing the exorbitant price of college seems very short sighted.

On a more big-picture level, I wish Dems would do a better job of knowing/establishing how to pay for programs before they propose them. Too much “Tax and spend”, not enough “Tax THEN spend”.

Like from GOP: similar to above, I support some restraint when it comes to spending. I think our govt needs a sane, intelligent, fiscally conservative/small govt party. While I think our govt can/should do more to help common people, I don’t want total socialism.

I also support the “Stay in Mexico” immigration policy.

Great thread idea, I think a quarterly “say something nice about the other side” thread would be a welcome addition if people would sincerely participate.

Conservative here.

I don't like the idea of no-exception anti-abortion laws. I don't mind banning abortion for the 'stereotypical' cases that hit the news, but there are cases where it is medically necessary. And I think doctors should be able to make that decision without having to fear jail time.

I also don't like the Trump worship. He had some good aspects and some bad ones. But he ain't a god FFS and I don't think he and I would get along.

Dem stuff I like - One that has hit me lately is that I wish we could reform health care to make it more affordable. I have two friends from high school - a married couple who are some of the nicest people you could ever imagine - and their son needs a heart transplant. The bills he is racking up are going to be astronomical, even if he has insurance. That sucks and there has to be a better way. There HAS to be room in a $4.8 TRILLION dollar budget to fit in something without making health care an absolute mess. Even if it is only for the catastrophic stuff (cancer, heart failure, etc).

I also think there needs to be some sort of immigration reform. I believe that any sovereign nation must have control of it's borders, but my understanding is that the current system is overly complicated.

So there is at least 2 things we can agree on. This is what our politicians are supposed to do.

Unfortunately, our politicians do not care what happens to any of US. They have sold this country out to other countries for money.
