The narrative seems to be that GT is going to roll to the division title. Sitting in here in August with a couple of weeks to kill before games start, let's consider another scenario since real life rarely plays out according to plans.
It seems to me that there are five teams that have a shot at that title (sorry, UVA and Pitt): UNC, Miami, GT, Duke, and VT. Since they all play each other, the title may come down to how they fare against the ACC Atlantic:
* Duke - home against BC and @Wake Forest
* GT - @Clemson and home against FSU
* Miami - home against Clemson and @FSU
* UNC - home against Wake and @NCSU
* VT - home against NCSU and @BC
Seems to me that Duke has the two most winnable games. I also see no way (well < 5% chance) that GT or Miami beat both Clemson and FSU so they are already starting with at least a one-game disadvantage to the Blue Devils. Who the hell knows about VT - they will probably still field a team with no offense.
Duke opens ACC play with a home game against GT on September 26. I will say it now....if Duke wins that game, GT is effectively eliminated from the ACC Coastal race and Duke will have a big leg up on everyone else. That's a very interesting early season game in a division I've personally mostly ignored for the past few years.
