A couple of basketball recruiting developments today …
Alabama graduate transfer guard Ricky Tarrant has scheduled Clemson as one of two visits.
Tarrant (6-2, 190) was second on the team in scoring at 13.1 points per game last season but missed the final 15 games with a foot injury. He spent his first two college seasons at Tulane before transferring to the Crimson Tide. Tarrant also averaged 2.0 assists and 1.4 steals last season.
He would be immediately eligible for the 2015-16 season, hence Clemson's interest in conjunction with Vanderbilt point guard Shelton Mitchell's visit this weekend.
Tarrant is scheduled to visit Clemson on April 24. Per ESPN's Jeff Goodman, Tarrant will first go to Memphis on April 19.
It's widely accepted in basketball circles that a transfer's first visit often seals the deal, so this is one with which Clemson will be crossing its fingers.
Tarrant has a connection to former Clemson star K.J. McDaniels and is being pursued by assistant coach Richie Riley.
In other news, Charlotte granted the release today to 2015 signee Ebuka Izundu, a 6-9 forward from nearby Victory Christian whom Clemson finished second for the initial go-round.
This was a domino we've been waiting to fall since Mark Price took over as new coach.
But the variable was whether the 49ers would restrict Izundu from Tennessee, which hired Izundu's primary recruiter in Desmond Oliver.
Izundu was granted an unconditional release, his high school coach told us, meaning the Vols or anyone can pursue him. Our expectation is Tennessee immediately becomes the heavy favorite to be his destination.
