I'm hearing that CU is going back to online classes after week three. Keeping the decision under wraps so they can keep as much $$$$ as possible. I know a number of out of state kids who would not have come back to Clemson and paid OOS tuition for online learning again.

I don't blame them. Bring in some Afghans for a certain type of physics. We'll be good

We could have this thing beat by now, but rednecks are gonna be rednecks

Define beat? As in if we had 80% of the population vaccinated like England does? Would we have it beat then? Oh that’s right, they have a higher case per 100k than we do as of right now. Getting vaccinated doesn’t stop you getting it or spreading it, so wtf are you talking about? If it’s getting sick, college kids don’t, so what exactly are you talking about?

So much that’s not true in this post

The reason restrictions are going back into place is because of deaths and hospitalizations, not positive cases.

In England over the last 30 days, 1,907 people have died from Covid in a population of 56 million.

In Texas alone, pop 29 Mil, 1,880 people have died from Covid over the last 30 days.

In Florida, pop 21 mil, 2,724 people have died from Covid over the last 30 days.

So just 2 states, who when combined have less population than England, have more than double the amount of deaths over the last 30 days.

Yesterday, England had 70 deaths. South Carolina had 69.

So “beat” is defined as Texas not having to ask the federal government for morturary trailers, or Florida not having to ask the federal government for more ventilators. Or a hospital in Houston not having to airlift patients out due to the ICU being full, or cancer patients not being prematurely discharged to make room for another selfish loser who refuses a vaccine.

If you don’t want to get vaccinated, OK, then stay your ass home when you get sick and die in your own bed.

So .00012% of Florida’s population has died over the past 30 days from what could be covid related. For a minute there I was thinking it was like 20%. Good to know.

Just like when we eradicated the flu!! Is everyone this dumb? You can’t stop a corona virus (flu, H1N1, SARS, Covid 19) because of the animal reservoir. It will continue to mutate and change so further Covid shots will be a guess or trying to stop the current strain. I’d rather be a redneck than a beta douche bag!

Wearing masks inside next 3 weeks. Could be what you heard.

Nope. The online announcement will follow at the end of the three week mask mandate. Was supposedly decided several weeks back. Using the timing of the mask mandate to their advantage. At least that what my sources have said.

So, how many vaccinated Clemson professors and students have died? Why are we going back to masks, why should professors be able to walk off the job? If the vaccinated can spread the diseases when is it “beat.” You talk about deaths, how many deaths have we had at Clemson?

I am vaccinated btw. Why did I do it, if it doesn’t stop the spread. Really questioning why now, especially as a healthy human in his 30s with a 99.99% chance of surviving this thing.

I agree with you, 100%. No masks, no shutdowns, no walk outs, no mandates. And if you’re not vaccinated, the hospital should have the right to turn you away and prioritize vaccinated patients over you.

But my guess is that that’s not a policy that’s ever going to get enacted. So if we collectively have to treat unvaccinated people, if they have to fill up our hospitals and put others who need care at risk of not receiving the care they need, then the next best thing is to try to stop the unvaccinated from getting sick and you do that with distancing and masks etc.

Again, “beat” is not about 0 positives. Covid is never going away, it will be here forever. But through Vaccinations it can be like other coronaviruses and not result in mass hospitalizations. When‘s the last time you heard of a state that had to bring in mortuary trucks because of deaths from the flu?

We might have if we hadn’t locked down and slowed the spread. Might not have had a variant spread either if enough people had immunity but you can’t fix stupid. Somehow keeping most of our society going amd shutting some of it down was going to stop a highly contagious virus from spreading through the over 200 million who were still out and about every day (but going to fewer open businesses). It was a true testament to this futility last summer when I’d go to Lowe’s in Clemson and the parking lot would be jammed full of cars. That and the same at the grocery stores as people had little else to do but hoard food, cook, do dyi projects and yard work.

This is also to me the real kicker. The stats say vaccination reduces your risk but also severity of covid. If you don’t want to get vaccinated, you should agree to not seek care if you contract the virus and it becomes serious because you willingly chose not to take preventative measures. But of course, as you noted, no one would go for that. Even unvaccinated folks want to live. I hate masks and I hate shutdowns and I personally think we should do neither - and require vaccination wherever we can…school, grocery store, etc. if anyone has traveled you’ve likely had to provide proof of vaccination. Once this one is FDA approved this will be no different

How do you feel about Medical Doctors from the state of SC who disagree with certain people taking the Covid vaccine?

I challenge you to listen to this from a Dr. I know.

You fail to mention how much the US hospitals get paid by our wonderful Government for evey death labeled "Covid"

Is England on the take, too?

Do you know anyone in these US hospitals required to do this labeling?
Ask around.

Exactly my thoughts. I relented and got family vax'd but why? Nothing has changed. The shots kicked my wife's ass. We didnt do it from fear of getting sick (we're non fats), but figured we'd eventually need to travel and so daug (CU Soph) could avoid the "prior" weekly testing. All for what? Nothing has changed. Its bs.

That's a slippery slope. Docs gonna turn away all the fats who get heart disease and smokers with lung cancer??

It’s about taking responsibility. If you willingly take a risk, you should willingly accept the consequences of that risk. Regarding your example, the ACA allows health insurance providers to charge up to 50% more for premiums for smokers. So, if you accept the health risks of smoking, you accept the increased cost of health insurance. And life insurance is more expensive based on your health risks as well.
Why can’t people who refuse to get vaccinated also have the balls to own that choice? Why should my health premiums or taxes go up because you end up in the ICU because you chose to not get vaccinated? Very socialist of people to want others to pay for their problems… Antivaxers sound like angry teenagers, they want independence and their choice respected, they want the world to change and adapt to them, but yet the parents have to be the adult ones and pay for everything.

I have yet to see an antivaxer put their money where their mouth is and say they won’t go to the hospital if they get sick or sell their house to pay for it and not be a burden to society. So, they’re all proudly independent until they need society/others to help/save them. All talk, no walk.

Better get this episode before it gets zapped. It won’t be around long.

I wonder if some people ITT look at their investment portfolio as they do masks and vaccination. Large cap, money market, crypto, international, value, aggressive…. what’s the difference? Doesn’t change anything anyway. Right?

I doubt it of course cause smart people actually see the different outcomes based on the different type of investments. Just like they do with a 3 star and a 5 star commitment.

@dbjork6317 provides very important analytical information just like your stock portfolio provides. It’s actually no different. Just a matter if you want to apply the same level of reason to take it seriously or not. Or just be dismissive cause gubment/my politics/my freedom or whatever justification you want to rattle off.

I promise you….. as shitty as our collective governments have been, you cannot falsify effective data over a long period of time. Numbers will win out. And that’s why you give a shit where you place your money.

So you found one family practice doc from Gafney SC that will support some of your biases. I can guarantee you 99.9% of doctors in the state and 100% who actually participate in clinical trial research and are robust in interpreting trial data are going to highly recommend the vaccine to the vast majority of people and you’d be very hard pressed to find one who didn’t received the vaccine themselves.
