Mowing the grass today and I look up to see about a 4 ft black snake slithering away. Sorry, no pictures, my phone was dead. Even if I had my phone, it was close to a big bush and crawled under there and out of sight shortly after I spotted it. I was hoping it would go away on it's own, but a few hours later when I was finishing up the yard work, I saw it again laying up against the house. It was then I got a good look at it and it didn't look poisonous and it had a yellowish or white belly, at least up near it's head.
I looked online to try and identify it and I'm pretty sure it's just a black rat snake, but if anyone could reassure me, that'd be great. I hate snakes but if it's a rat snake, I may consider myself lucky. I have a large deck and a good portion beneath it has been enclosed and water proofed to use as a storage area. I've tried all kinds of things, but mice and other critters love to make that their home.
