Fox News dominated the third quarter of 2022 – the sixth straight quarter Fox News was number one in cable news.
They averaged 1.4 million viewers — beating both MSNBC and CNN by a huge margin.
Fox News also won in primetime averaging 2.2 million viewers.

Fox News Channel finished the third quarter of 2022 as cable’s most-watched network among both total and primetime viewers as Americans tuned in for information and analysis during a busy news cycle that featured everything from ongoing economic woes to the FBI raid of former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home.
The busy quarter also included continued coverage of the war in Ukraine, the death of Queen Elizabeth and around-the-clock political news. Fox News averaged 1.4 million total day viewers during the quarter, crushing No. 2 MSNBC’s average viewership of 783,000 as CNN, ESPN and HGTV also landed in the top five. It was the sixth straight quarter that Fox News finished No. 1 in the category, airing 94 of the top 100 telecasts in cable news along the way.
During the primetime hours of 8-11 p.m., Fox News dominated with 2.2 million average viewers to outdraw MSNBC and CNN combined. MSNBC averaged 1.3 million, followed by ESPN, HGTV and Hallmark. CNN settled for a primetime average of only 717,000 and failed to crack the top five as Fox News was the highest-rated cable news network during primetime for the 83rd straight quarter.
Fox News’ Gutfeld once again dominated late-night, averaging over 2 million viewers.
In the head-to-head battle between Sean Hannity, Rachel Maddow, and her replacement Alex Wagner, Hannity won the rating battle — averaging 2.6 million compared to 1.8 million from Rachel Maddow and Alex Wagner.
Deadline reported:
Fox News noted that Greg Gutfeld’s show topped “all of late-night for second consecutive month,” but that claim that comes with a big huge asterisk. While his show had its highest rated quarter, it is a late-night show only in one part of the country, as it is not time delayed for the western time zones. So in Los Angeles, it airs at 8 PM.
Also of note: September marked the first full month of MSNBC’s unusual arrangement in which Rachel Maddow anchors on Mondays at 9 PM ET and Alex Wagner hosts the rest of the weeknights.
In its release, Fox News noted that Hannity beat Wagner “by double and triple-digit advantages.” MSNBC said that the Maddow-Wagner combination averaged 1.7 million total viewers at that hour in Q3, with The Rachel Maddow Show averaging 2.5 million and up 15% year over year. Wagner’s show, the network said, averaged 1.6 million viewers, a 36% increase versus MSNBC Prime, the show that filled the slot since Maddow went to one night a week in May.
Fox News was responsible for nine of the top 10 shows in quarter three.
Only The Rachel Maddow Show/Alex Wagner Tonight were able to sneak into the top 10.
The Five was the top show — averaging 3.2 million viewers.

this is much more an indictment of the intelligence of conservative voters. They are watching opinion shows meant to entertain them while stoking their anger and bitterness, and thinking they are watching news.

CNN is currently making the move to be more conservative, hence the firing of many high profile anchors. They want to fill the void of center right that Fox News used to hold, before they went full maga. They know that educated people - AKA liberals - don’t get their news from prime time TV. They are following the money.

It would be a smart business move for sure. There’s a big gap now that fox has shifted further right. You had MSNBC and CNN as hard left and fox as hard right. The majority of the country is in the middle, so the market is ripe for something else. CNN would need to wash the leftist stink off the brand to attract center right viewers though.

What you might find interesting is the Left now considers CNN too right leaning haha. I see liberals all over social media vowing to never watch it again.
