One of the more prominent recruits under the spotlight last week at the Dabo Swinney Football camp was Mount Pleasant (S.C.) Wando 2017 four-star receiver OrTre Smith.

Smith (6-4, 205) participated all three days of the opening session in an effort to earn a Clemson scholarship.

While that did not materialize, he said he did not let it ruin his experience. He told TigerIllustrated.com that while he did feel a bit disappointed, it does not change how he views Clemson – where his mother lettered in volleyball.

Smith said Clemson co-offensive coordinators Tony Elliott and Jeff Scott told him they are still sorting out their 2017 receiver board and to keep working.

Smith, who cites no favorites, said he has had to cancel plans to see Tennessee this weekend. He hopes to make it to Florida State and Louisville sometime this summer.

While numerous Clemson staffers went on vacation this week as part of Swinney Camp decompression, the holdovers will play host to a four-star 2017 prospect today.

Atlanta (Ga.) Hapeville Charter cornerback William Poole III will be making his first trip to Death Valley.

Poole (5-11, 173), one of the top underclassmen at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge in Baltimore, Md., earlier this month, is coveted by all the major names in the southeast: Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and LSU headline a list of offers that includes Notre Dame, Michigan, Tennessee, Penn State and Miami as well.

He camped last weekend at Louisville and will be visiting Duke, North Carolina, N.C. State and Wake Forest this weekend.

Clemson offered Poole in early April, and he said recently that the Tigers are among the handful of schools recruiting him the hardest (as well as Auburn, Virginia Tech, Ole Miss and LSU).

Evidently Clemson’s offer to San Antonio (Texas) Reagan high-three star quarterback Kellen Mond awoke several in-state schools.

Texas A&M offered Mond on Tuesday night, several hours after Houston put its name in the hat. Baylor, SMU and Texas Tech had previously offered.

In other words, everybody but Texas.

Maybe it wasn’t just a Mack Brown thing.

Here’s an 2017 offensive line prospect to tuck away for future reference:

Chesapeake (Va.) Grassfield interior lineman Seth Harrell (6-3, 320) worked out Saturday among the one-day campers and was among the more productive performers.

Harrell’s father played at N.C. State under offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell.

He has taken visits to N.C. State, Virginia Tech and Virginia among others, and Wake Forest is expressing interest.
