Some news and nuggets from the nightcap of the opening day of the Dabo Swinney camp:

New Orleans (La.) Holy Cross three-star cornerback Kyle Meyers left campus after the afternoon session.

Our feedback is that Meyers (5-11, 170) left a very favorable impression on Clemson’s staff.

We expect an offer to be announced by the prospect in the near future.

Meyers was en route Monday night to Florida State, which holds perhaps the last piece of the puzzle in his recruitment.

Mississippi State offered last month, and Meyers intended to camp at Ole Miss, Clemson and FSU before advancing the process.

Our information suggests Meyers now could make a decision as early as by the end of the month.

He and his mother made the seven-hour drive to campus Monday morning and didn’t get to tour the campus.

But he has been invited back for the All-In Cookout next month.

We can tell you that Meyers’ mother liked how defensive backs coach Mike Reed treated the players he coached, and that could be a big factor in Clemson’s favor.

North Charleston (S.C.) Fort Dorchester four-star lineman John Simpson sat out the evening session, but he did show up to watch.

Simpson spent considerable time beforehand joking and talking with student assistant Durrell Barry, a fellow Fort Dorchester product Simpson befriended at camp last summer while he attended Stall High School.

A handful of Clemson players made their way to Simpson during the course of the evening to say hello and chat for awhile.

Two visitors we hadn’t noticed until this evening: Baldwin (Ga.) 2017 defensive end Malik Clark (6-3, 215) and McCormick (S.C.) 2018 running back Mataeo Durant.

Argyle (Texas) tight end commitment J.C. Chalk worked out Monday night.

Also, one prospect to track in the future will be Clemmons (N.C.) West Forsyth 2018 tight end K.J. Young. Young (6-4, 200) worked out at defensive end in the early session but looked a better fit on offense in the nightcap.
