These thoughts will be slightly/very incoherent but enjoy writing them down.
We’re a projected 5 seed now. 4 games left. Understanding what I know on resumes and bracketology, win out in the regular season and we’re going to stay a 5 (harder said than done). A chance (low odds), to move to a 4 but we’ll have to probably beat wake and either unc/duke (a bracketology note a tournament champion doesn’t factor in to the resume) in acc tourney to get there. That adds 2/3 quad 1 wins. (Quad wins and resumes REALLY matter in this system). If we Lose to wake and another regular season game/no quad 1s in acc tournament we could be a 6.
I’m finally REALLY understanding bracketology in the new NET/Quad resume differentiating system.
Yes, bracketologists like lunardi have a platform but they do a good job predicting the bracket because it’s resume-based in an uneven system. My only gripe is, don’t talk down or hype teams that “dont make or make your prediction”. Because if you know basketball, The team you are in November isn’t your team in January and it’s def not your team in February/start of March (every coach and player understands this.)
My belief is that it’s ok to say a team is playing great over the last two months of the season or they beat a similar conference opponent on the bubble 3 times (ie clemson 3-0 over nc state last year) to just give us their spot and seed us/them lower but have a similar resume.
As a fan I’m not going to be mad that a committee selects a team that makes the ncaa tourney because they just look damn better than a team with the “better mathematical resume”. Wakes a tourney team this year in my eyes, Gonzaga is and if someone like USF loses their conference tourney to FAU or Memphis, they better better get in. Lunardi talks shit because he knows how the system works.
Back to clemson, I need to say this because of the wild takes on the board after losses. If you don’t think this is a well coached team, like really well coached ( I’m talking just this year) then I’ll never win that argument because that person I’m arguing with is set in their thoughts. We’re not a 1 seed but we’re playing like a 3-6 seed which is what anyone who followed this team expected.
My season to-date thoughts: we played great in non conference. One of the top 8-13 non conference resumes. Memphis got us at their place and they are actually good enough to be a top team on any given night. Then right before and after Christmas, we played two duds that let us run up and down and dominate. I felt those games changed who the team thought we were. From a tough defensive minded team that needed the front court to dominate to a team that thought they can just beat anyone up and down the court, outscoring teams.
We then went into acc play against miami thinking we could win that way and got smoked. There was not enough time to get back to what we should be and Played unc at home where we thought home court would give us the win. We lost because unc at their best is a top 4 team. We then went to Vtech and that team on that night beats just about every ACC team with the way Padulla and Nickel played.
GTech loss is inexcusable. Virginia always gives us fits but we are better and shouldn’t lose that at home. The Duke game, we should have won but honestly our turnovers at the end were our fault (Beadle didn’t foul).
In a cbb season for all but about 8 teams (this year 3), you lose head scratchers. The unc win was my favorite clemson bball win since Auburn in the tourney. And… back to bracketology, losing to nc state didn’t move us a bit from seed line. Guess what, Horne for nc state is a GREAT player.
Let’s beat Pitt, it’s no easy task but we can. ND has a great PG in freshman in Burton And the coaches son can stroke. They are so much better than what they were to start the year. Syracuse, when bell is hot and they turn us over like they did makes it tough. I don’t expect to win at Wake but we’re good enough. They are just really good. Hunter guards sallis but Girard guarding their pg is a liability.
Because the really bad teams in the acc are actually decent (VT BC Miami) id love to win out, beat Wake and be the 4 seed and get a double bye.
Back to our team: love what Clarke is doing in his roll, what an effortless on-ball defender. Girard has physical limitations (long and quick defenders can knock the ball away from him) but I believe he has the quickest release and a top 3 shooter in cbb and he always plays with a purpose. Chase is playing his best ball, offensively and defensively. PJ - just stay out of foul trouble and he’s a top 20 impact player in CBB. Scheff, just keep rebounding and being opportunistic. And we have a really good bench: this is the key for Brownell to find which guys need to play for each specific game. We play so well together and seems like everyone knows and is agreeing with their roll.
The point of this post? I like to write (incoherently and with bad English) and love Clemson BB as well as March Madness. This has been such an enjoyable team to root for and think everyone who loves clemson should back, win or lose. Also happy to answer any questions other would he to hear my opinions on.
