Here is what I would like to see happen (What are your thoughts?)

I would like the power 5 to set up the following rules:

1. Only power 5 conference teams who play in a conference championship game are eligible for the playoff. (ND would be forced to join a conference, all other non power 5 conference teams are on their own and need to form their own division).

2. Each power 5 league must have AT LEAST 14 teams in their conference and a conference championship pitting the TWO best teams in the league against each other. (Big 12 would need to add 4 teams of their choice to be compliant). 14 teams makes it even among all the leagues currently. This would assure that the best team from each league will be in the playoff, not some scrub that won their side of the division with a 4-4 record. The two best teams could be determined by record, head to head, and ranking.

3. The two lowest seed conference champions out of the 5, play each other in a consolation match. The winner is in the playoff, the loser is out.

Example: Conference Champion 4 vs. 5 (Winner goes to 4 team playoff)

4. Teams are then seeded 1-4 with winner of consolation game being seeded in the 4 spot. Seed 1 then plays Seed 4, Seed 2 plays seed 3. Winner of those teams play each other for the national championship.

5. Power 5 teams have to play all power 5 teams. 2 scrimmages vs. a regional non power 5 teams can be played prior to September 1st, but is optional. 1 can be played as the Spring game, 1 can be played during fall practice. Power 5 teams must play at least 8 conference games, and at least 2 games vs OOC Power 5 teams.

This past year it would have pitted FSU vs. TCU/Baylor for the consolation match to get into the playoff. If you don't win your conference, you CAN'T get into the playoff.
