I had the opportunity the other day on a flight, to sit beside a former D-1 football head coach, who once served on staff at Clemson. He had no thought on what Dabo may or may not do with Wes, but he had some interesting thoughts on things to think about in the search process. First of all, he thought it very unlikely that Dabo could hire a current SEC or Big Ten Coordinator without paying close to three million. His point was that the ones you would want already make 2 to 2.5. He also said that not only would being in the ACC be a problem with hiring, but the current Clemson lawsuit would too. His thought was that Dabo will either hire someone that knows him well enough to trust being here and couple that with a salary of 2.5 or higher. He thought a top class group of five DC or an NFL coach that wanted in the college game might be the pool Dabo is working from unless he already knows he is hiring from within. Certainly nothing earth shattering here, but interesting thoughts. Though he had no real suggestions, he did say that if he were looking to hire a DC, he would at least talk with Clay Bignell of Southern Miss.he also said Golden at NotreDame would be a consideration, if you were willing to pay three million.
