I'm most definitely in the middle as far as votes go. I weigh each issue and vote with my heart/mind. That being said, it seems limiting to folks like me to only have two candidates to choose between. Do you think we could ever have a true multi-party system?

It would be nice, but not sure it's possible. It sucks to choose between the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rashida Tlaib.

Would be outstanding to actually have some choices.

I am against big government, big taxes and pro capitalism, but also pro social rights and anti-religion. I really am split down the middle.

Would be amazing, but the only thing that truly unifies the existing two parties is their desire to not cede any of their power to others.

Our entire congressional system has been tailored for just two parties. The whole "majority" vs " minority" designation - and the resulting leadership positions within each - are too important for the career bureaucrats to give up.

Sadly, the only thing a third party does at this moment is siphon votes from one of the existing sides. There has to be a real grassroots movement to establish a viable third party on a national scale.

This. Until someone is able to build, from the ground up, a national political infrastructure for a 3rd party, we are stuck.

This looks like county party offices, precinct chair, state party offices, support and a fundraising network. It's a lot.

in what world are these two similar even in the slightest? one wants to expand voter rights and access and bring attention to POC struggles

and the other thinks that rich people and liberals are drinking the blood of children

yeah i could see how i'd struggle picking between the two as well

I think he was being illustrative as to the fringes of both parties. Tlaib and AOC represent the way left and MTG the way right.

right, but one fringe is a lot more palatable than the other. it's disingenuous to compare mtg to tlaib and "the squad." say what you will about their policies, but they at least try and put forward bills and legislation - MTG just shitposts and is full on grievance politics

They both suck.

Who doesn't have the right to vote? I keep getting Black Voter Action or whatever texts and they can't seem to answer that either.

As @scott in nashville points out, this was just illustrative of extremes in both parties. I don't really care if you take offense to one more than the other. Tlaib's policies would unsustainably expand government and take even more money away from my family.

And she's also an anti-semite and kinda nuts.

What am I missing in this video?

Also, she's an anti-semite? That's news to this Jew. Where has she said racist things about Jews?

Being against the actions of the state of Israel or being against Zionism is absolutely not being an anti-semite. To be clear. And in so stating, you are doing exactly what you are bemoaning in others.

That she’s a loon?

“Tlaib and Omar support the Boycott Divestment and Sanction (BDS) campaign against Israel. Supporting BDS falls under the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism that the Biden administration has adopted.”

She also used the “From the River to the sea, Palestine will be free” mantra that alludes to the destruction of Israel. This slogan is also used by Hamas.

Yea. Bds isn't anti-Semitic.

River to the sea certainly is. I'm gonna see if I can track that down.

Edit: She retweeted it, then deleted it quickly and changed the language to something about Detroit to Gaza.

So, open to interpretation I guess.

is this one of those things where people say "oh you're critical of israel, you must be an anti-semite" ?

it's not about not having the right to vote, it's about putting barriers up that make it more difficult for people from poorer backgrounds and urban environments to vote. below are a couple articles addressing it.

I know this thread isn’t about Israel, but there was a thread about them a week or so ago when the bombing was going on with Gaza. And I read some of your posts, but didn’t comment. You’ve made comments that Israel is committing war crimes etc. (if I remember correctly) against the Palestinians... you do know that Hamas shot off thousands of rockets against Israel? The only reason Israel wasn’t obliterated with thousands of civilian deaths is because of Israel’s missile defense systems that shot most of them down. (Thankfully) It wasn’t because Hamas wasn’t TRYING to kill as many Israelis as possible. And if and when they get the technology to do so they will achieve their goals . But Israel is the terrorist state? Really? Lol And you’re a Jew also saying these things?

Im sure you know Israel was formed in 1948 because of the atrocities of Hitler, and to have a Jewish homeland. What Hitler did was possibly the most heinous act in history, and there’s been a lot of heinous acts in world history. Are you also aware that those neighboring countries that surround Israel all supported Hitler and the Axis powers and were against the allies trying to defeat Hitler? Heck, the Muslim mufti of Jerusalem at that time even went to meet with Hitler when Hitler was forming his plan to wipe the Jews off the face of the earth. There are pictures of that meeting. And are you aware that if Hitler had won that war that there’s a high likelihood that he could’ve / would’ve achieved his goal of killing all the Jews worldwide and your grandparents and/or parents possibly could’ve /would’ve been killed? And therefore there would be no iceheart on tigerillustrated spreading b.s. about what a horrible country Israel is for defending itself against terrorist entities. And I’m a non Jew here defending them. Amazing if not so sad.

Short answer.

Not going to happen. At least not at a significant level to make a difference.

BTW - this country once had multiple parties. It's really only been a 2 party system since the Civil War.

Looks like the 2 party system will be getting more lopsided as conservatives jump ship to become Red Dog democrats.
