Was checking the internet tonight for information on Danny's health and came across this gem...
Brogna made two visits, to USC and Clemson, of the five he had scheduled. Tigers coach Danny Ford, who won the 1981 national championship, made the strongest push for Brogna. No gesture was stronger than his flight to the Watertown-Torrington game on Thanksgiving morning.
“Danny Ford came to our Thanksgiving Day game and he was like, ‘I didn’t come up here on Thanksgiving for you not to come to Clemson,’” Brogna recalled. “I was like, ‘I know, Coach, I appreciate it. Clemson’s strong on my list.’”
In December, Brogna finally selected Clemson. He accepted the Tigers’ football scholarship, although he also planned to play baseball at the school.
“They did have players playing both (sports), which was one of the reasons I chose it,” Brogna said. “Some schools will tell you whatever you want to hear, but Clemson actually had players doing both. It would have been difficult to play both as a quarterback. I don’t know where it would have led to had it gone that way.”
