It would be pretty bad if people were being denied because of who they want to vote for. But I'm not sure I really disagree with this:
"Reviewing college apps and, just wanna say: no one cares if you’re Republican. Like, small government, low taxes, etc., republican. BUT BUT BUT, if you’re gonna talk about being Republican (1) don’t act like it’s an oppressed group bc it’s not..."

Mentioning what political party you like in a college admissions essay is pretty dumb, especially if you're writing about your politics as if it makes you part of a victimized group. That said, this admissions counselor might be more impressed by other claims of oppression. And her second point is really, really silly.

If Clemson were really denying admission to Republicans, they'd have a pretty hard time finding students. I also find it hard to believe that Clemson isn't still a pretty conservative student body.

Why would you advertise your politics of any stripe on an admission form? I'm having trouble understanding what context this would come up in.

Also sounds like this person doesn't actually make any decisions re: admissions so much ado about nothing
I’m guessing if you were a member or officer of your school’s Republican/Democrat club, that might be mentioned in extra-curriculars.

The partisan media outlets must have an outrage of the day to drive clicks and ratings. Regardless, employees in public enterprises need to keep their mouths shut about partisan politics.

Or the top of the board with the Hampton thread. You never know around here.
We've already discussed the Murdaugh situation. You don't like it. I get it. It is not the norm here, as you well know. It is an exception. But I've got to do right by my business. I don't have a choice.

We need to keep a closer eye on the thread for moderating purposes after getting contacted by a couple of people in the legal community. It's easier to do here versus just shipping it to the round table where posts go to die. It's really that cut and dry. We don't even attempt to moderate the trainwreck threads on the round table. They're shipped there for a reason.

Nailed it.

Also, "www.redstate.com"? Come on, surely their content isn't at all biased. I mean, just read the article title. 🤣

I swear, the things people get up in arms about. You just have to laugh at ridiculousness, no matter where it comes from, and move on with your day.

RedState is explicitly right wing. Nobody expects them to be down the middle. The progressive/left-wing takeover of universities seems like a pretty obvious fact to me. Still, this one seems like much ado about nothing.

Also, nobody should care that some moron admissions counselor expresses her political opinions online. But she needs to understand that saying something as admissions counselor at Clemson will, and should, raise a few eyebrows. I also imagine there would be a pretty big uproar of a conservative admissions counselor said something along these lines, with the modification that some favored progressive group should stop talking about being oppressed as a reason for being admitted to Clemson.

Lolol. Spin up the outrage machine fellas.

Maybe 2 or 3 of you actually read the article.

As Monica Rozman, an Admissions Administrator is publicly stating that Clemson applicants who are Republican are racist and bigots. It is starting to smell a little rotten and she has not retracted or apologized for her hateful rhetoric. Will President Clements allow this form of prejudice to continue?

So she is not worried about receiving a state supported check from a state that is overly majority Republican? She seems like a sellout

Agreed. If only she had stopped there.

no, no one should care that she posted her opinion but the university should care that she might be collectively biased in her acceptance criteria. Her job is to find smart kids to attend Clemson, not hand select smart democrats to attend Clemson.

In the same breathe, an 18 year old kid applying to college should be allowed to have a political affiliation without their character being judged by which party they lean towards or immediately being called a racist. This country needs to consider a course correction.......total mess at the moment.

She doesn’t actually say that she’ll discriminate against Republicans, though. She does say some stupid stuff about how somebody who does say they’re a Republican in their college admissions material should address being a Republican. But it’s stupid to talk about which political party you like in college admissions material when you’re 17/18, anyway.

What if you're a member of young Republicans or some other political group affiliated with your high school? Maybe even in a leadership position that you would want to reference in your application? I wouldn't call that stupid.

This comment should probably have her removed from any position that has any influence on admission decisions:

unless you ACTIVELY DENOUNCE the white supremacy and misogyny, etc., within your party, you are going out of your way to identify with an oppressive group

Actually political affiliation or believe shouldn’t even be on the application. What does that have to do with acceptable college criteria?
What if the kid wanted to represent their leadership skills by saying they were president of their schools young republicans club.
Or wanted to display their organization skills by noting they organized a Right to Life March.
This Clemson representative would take issue with those accomplishments.
But replace with young liberals club and BLM March and she would celebrate those accomplishments.
She should be fired!

Yeah, that second part was ridiculous. And I agree that if she was making even the first statement about some other groups, people would at least suspect her of discrimination. I read the first part as being about somebody writing an essay about how persecuted they were as a Republican. That's different than just having clubs in your extra-curriculars or mentioning that you were active.
