I’m sure that’s true. Apparently Disney had already begun relocating employees that they will now relocate back to California.

Disney is scheduled to invest an additional $17 billion in Florida over the next decade. Will be interesting if they start to pull back on those investments in the coming years.

I’m with you here. A Republican governor waging battle against the largest economic force in the state is a good sign that he has abandoned a fiscally focused, pro economic growth platform in lieu of culture wars. It’s why Desantis isn’t my preference for the GOP nomination.

That said, this stuff is getting him big margins in FL (just look at the 2022 election) and making him popular among the low brow base. That may catapult him to the nomination, so the strategy - absent consideration for good policy - is working.

I don’t think he will necessarily carry that same platform and policy focus past the nomination or into the presidency if he makes it that far, but I guess we will see.

Agree. Trump will just conform his positions to whatever pushes Ron into a negative light while appealing to his base.

Look at SS and Medicare. Trump has pivoted to absolutely no changes to SS and Medicare because he has a blue collar and older base that likes that position. Serious republicans know that we need to address this and consider raising eligibility ages, etc. That will be unpopular (though necessary) and Trump will abandon traditional conservative views to win these voters. He’ll make a guy like Desantis out as someone who wants to slash their benefits, even though entitlement reform should be core to a conservative voter.
