There was a terrorist attck at a nightclub by a guy that pledged allegience to ISIS. The guy was a security guard that had undergone extensive background checks and was investigated by the FBI several times. So the Democrats' response is to hold a "sit-in" in Congress currently screaming for.more gun control??

Do I have that right?

They're screaming that he probably shouldn't have been able to buy an AR-15.

I always hear that people want guns like the AR-15 to protect themselves and their family, which certainly is their right.

But I've not really heard of many robbers or muggers with rifles. And I also hear that these weapons are ok to be sold because the people who possess them are trained, and are active with firearms (as is their right); but if you're such a damn good shot,
Won't you're .38 or your glock suffice against a burglar with a six shot?

Not advocating for restrictions. 2nd amendment assures you right to bear whether we like it or not. But don't totally get the logic of why people say they need these weapons.

It's not up to politicians to tell us what we need to exercise a right...especially if it just happens to look scary yet has the same exact capabilities as your daddy's deer rifle.

A good friend of mine said it better than I could:

"This is not about "need." I don't need to prove that I need this right anymore than you need to prove that you need the right to free speech, or equal protection under the law, or due process, or any of the rest of it.

Where I live is actually a relatively safe place to be. Not much in the way of violent crime happens here, and in fact, I can't think of a single homicide in this county since I moved here 15 years ago. Co-incidentally, this rural county likely has a very high rate of gun ownership. I own guns not because I'm afraid of my neighbors, but because I think that exercising all the rights that I have is an important thing to do, and I enjoy shooting as a hobby, and hunting, too. I don't have to prove to your standards that I "need" and AR15 or a pistol any more than I have to prove that I "need" to own several kayaks and a canoe, or an old Mercedes that almost never gets driven, or that I "need" to have the right to free speech, association, or religion. None of that stuff is subject to the approval or politicians or bureaucrats, for you or for me."

Not disagreeing with you in questioning the "home defense" aspect of these weapons that people talk about. But the whole good shot premise doesn't translate at all from a weapon with a stock that is anchored to your shoulder vs a free standing pistol where so much more balance is taken into effect. Not to mention the difference in accuracy is tremendous due to multiple reasons. But i agree that the home defense idea is bogus and i love shooting guns. Lets just call it what it is, a fun time. Don't justify as home defense when there are many more pertinent home defense weapons.
