Yah the earth was flat was common knowledge.. during the dark ages. You know, when science was witchcraft and the clergy ruled all of society

USA TODAY is a known leftist organization propagating the Democratic party lines. They obviously are covering up the Truth. They are like a double negative equals a positive. If they say it isn't true, then it must be true.

Insert nothing to see here gif.

Op love you for your musical contributions. This, however, is laughable. Unless you meant it to be laughed at. In which case it’s great.

He does this a lot. Probably stoned and listening to an old Dead show laughing his ass off.

Maybe I’ve been living under a rock … but the conspiracy theory that I have heard most recently is that Antarctica is t a continent, but rather a wall of ice that separates us from 22 other continents. Apparently this theory goes hand in hand with Flat Earth Theory

Of course it's laughable. That's why I posted it. The shit some people believe is really incredible.

To be fair, flat earth and geocentric philosophy was driven by the church, not by science.

But they were the “experts” of that time period, no?

Also, the geocentric model long predates the church/Christianity….Ptolemy & Aristotle were considered scientists, right?
as it pertains to the europeans, yes the clergy were the most educated at the time - at least per capita. heliocentrism has been around since the BC times, or at least early theories similar to heliocentrism from ancient grecian philosophers. it wasn't until mankind had created telescopes that the heliocentric model could be proven. geocentrism dates back to ancient babylon iirc, so yeah it long predates the church.

technically the church opposed heliocentrism because it opposed the entire foundation of medieval scientific thought. aristotle actually addressed the possibility of heliocentrism, but he couldn't square it with his own theories on gravity. and truly the church didn't really oppose heliocentrism until copernicus tried to use religious texts to prove heliocentrism.

i knew all those late nights watching Cosmos when drunk would come in handy. i'm probably ****ing up some of what i'm saying though so please don't hold me to it

True. I guess my point was that our knowledge of the world around us is constantly changing and evolving. Who’s to say that certain things we don’t take as fact now will not be disproved or expand upon centuries from now

I am much dumber for what I just read

Please telll me I can forget what I just read and never even in the most dire of circumstances recall this

Who’s to say that people of the future won’t look back on this time period in a similar manner?

Flat earth was still commonly accepted as recently as 400-500 years ago, not exactly the dark ages

We have plenty of people today that think the 2 most structurally sound buildings in the world fell straight down at free fall speed due to being hit by an airplane

Interestingly, it was known in our history as far back as 500 bc that the earth was round. Scientific methods are sound whenever they occur. However when the powerful use superstition to keep and grow their power... those methods tend to be burned along with the people who use them. Please see the dark ages.
