Everyone on this board can continue to call Spurrier a quitter until they are blue in the face

and maybe he is a quitter. But the fact is, by quitting now in the middle of the season as opposed to waiting until after the season, he's done USCe a HUGE solid. It gives Tanner a legitimate 7-8 week head start on getting a replacement. Now that Southern Cal's job is open and Maryland's as well, there is going to be some serious competition for replacement head coaches and Spurrier quitting now is actually better for South Carolina than him coaching the rest of the season. By the end of the season there will be even more openings, further diluting the coaching pool.

Now, I don't think Tanner will make a hire right away, because there are still a lot of dominoes that have to fall. No one knows what's going to happen at Texas, but according to TBS, Strong is a legitimate candidate for the USCe job. A lot of folks still feel that he and Texas will end up parting ways this season. But now that the USCe job is officially open, Tanner can openly start talking to coaches and it gives them a distinct advantage.

I'm just saying that all of you are calling him a "quitter" and what not because you hate Spurrier and because you think what he did is bad for his employer, but in reality he did what was best for his employer. It would've been better for Clemson if Spurrier would've coached out the rest of the season IMO.
