What is the best way to kill fire ants? They are starting to come back this year. Bait right after the soil reaches a certain temp? What should I do...lawn is about 2 acres. We live near Lexington.

Thanks!

Find farm supply and get some poison and spray the whole yard

There are some termite products that you can spray on your yard that will help create impenetrable barrier for ants. Ask a local feed and seed store about it. I did this last year and havnt seen a ant pile since.

The Scotts weed and feed doesn’t seem to work anymore but their ant killer 3-4 times a year still does the trick

This product is sold as WISDOM at tractor supply it but at 5 or 7 percent for 32-34 dollars ( bifenthrin active ingredient )
Google and many brands with 25-27% will show up. I spray my yard every year with tank on 4-wheeler and no ants. This is the same thing available in granular form (bait) but much cheaper
Neighbor keeps 1 1/2 gallon pump sprayer on his lawn mower and spays them before he cuts them and again after and has gone from hundreds of mounds to just an occasional one
Bifenthrin is active ingredient in Over and Out

Either get a landscaper to apply Top Choice for you ($$$) or go buy a 4.5 Lb jug of Extinguish Plus and a hand spreader. It’s a bait so you will need to put it out while they are feeding and no rain for the next 6 hours. 1.5 lbs per acre, so it goes a long way for cheap.

This stuff works great for me.

I love watching the little bastards break into seizures as soon as they touch it.

Top Choice use to be the way to go...Before retiring in 2013 this is what we used at work. Back then it was around 200 bucks per 50lb.

Sorry, what did you say? I was distracted by your avatar.

You can either spread a granular bifenthrin product or buy a sprayer and spray the lawn with it.

If I use granular, I buy Over & Out, about 6 bags will cover 2 acres. Its usually $35-40 a bag. I put it out at the first sight of a hill, and it'll last until Aug 1. Then you do it again. You won't see a hill pop up.

The cheaper way is to spray Talstar over the entire lawn. Same chemical, works about the same length of time, but you'll need a 15 gallon tow-behind sprayer or someone to spray for you.

I distribute a few bags of this (4 will usually treat my yard). Lasts about 3-4 months. Then repeat when I see a new hill.

Over N Out works great for my yard. I have never had ants when using it. If you have really bad ants to begin with put out one application then wait a month and put out a second. After that you should be good to go with the every 6 month routine.

You like Over and Out better than Extinguish plus?
