FRIDAY NIGHT Dan Radakovich Update
By: Larry Williams

Yes, you might say tonight's report that Dan Radakovich is leaving for Miami came out of nowhere from our perspective.

A few weeks ago, given Radakovich's connections with Miami, we asked around to see if he might be a candidate there. We were told he'd received some interest but it didn't sound like it would advance further than that.

We were told this evening that talks between Radakovich and Miami actually stalled at one point. But it appears, at the very least, that things revved back up between Clemson's AD and the school that's searching for a replacement for Blake James.

John Canzano, a prominent columnist in Oregon, reported Radakovich is a done deal. And we'd conclude that Miami's pursuit of Ducks coach Mario Cristobal is the most logical explanation for why a reporter in Oregon is breaking news about an AD search at Miami.

Other respected reporters are insisting it's not done. Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated wrote that Miami has reached out to several high-level Power 5 ADs with offers of more than $3 million a year. Included is Radakovich, who earned his MBA from Miami.

We can tell you that word is circulating through Clemson's athletics department that it is indeed done. That word is not based on media reports but on conversations with people who are in position to know.

But we're going to need to see more and hear more to be convinced it's indeed done. We can tell you these reports were a total surprise to a person we spoke with at the trustee level. We can also tell you that, to our knowledge, Radakovich has not informed any of his coaches that he's leaving Clemson.

As for the replacement if Radakovich indeed does go to Miami, we don't think it'd be a very long search. Graham Neff, Radakovich's second in command, is highly respected within the athletics department and university community. As far back as two years ago, we asked people in decision-making positions whether Neff would be the guy if Radakovich left. We were told that such a promotion would be highly likely.

We will certainly keep you all posted on this as it moves forward and we hear more.
