This play was without a doubt the most game changing play I have ever witnessed in person. We were getting smoked by Wake so bad their student section was telling us to warm up our buses and shaking their keys at halftime. I remember telling some nerd it was WAY to early for that BS.
Anyway, we are down 14 pts in the 4th Q, they are kicking FG to make it 17 pts and 3 possession game (and they would damn sure had made it since they had the best kicker in the country at the time, Swank I think).
My man Gaines came around the corner, nudges the holder causing the ball to pop into the air. He then snags it with one hand and takes off with his 4.6 speed at 260lbs...That high school stadium shut up real quick. Went from becoming a 3 possession game to a 1 possession game in one play.
We get a stop and somehow Will Proctor got lucky and completes a pass to Aaron Kelly for the tying TD. Got another stop and Spiller breaks about a 70 yarder and DESTROYS some poor kids angle...go up a TD. Think we got a FG to seal it with about 5 min left. Good stuff...
