Goldman says Mask Mandate Could Save The U.S. Economy $1 Trillion

I'd be against a national mask mandate, but I do think states where there's widespread infection should have one. If not at the state level, then at the local level where there's widespread infection. I've been surprised how much push-back there was to wearing masks. I'm not sure they're hugely effective and would be a sure thing for reducing the spread of virus to zero, but they're really not hard to use or wear and they clearly do help to keep people from sending high volumes of droplets into the air. Yes, they're annoying, but they're a lot better than everything just being closed. But the people who seem to most want things back to normal continue to refuse to do anything to help things get back to there.

We clearly needed another thread about masks and the COVID.

When my young children keep doing the same dumb crap, i never say "you know what at this point I've told them enough times, they will be fine anyway."

Im finally on board. Hate the masks but if it allows school, football, business to open im in. Minor inconvenience for other aspects of life if it helps.

Is there empirical evidence it works vs speculation it works? Any cities or localities that have been doing this for weeks to compare their infection rate?

Also, if it shuts the MSM up about this raging pandemic (sarcasm), well, that's good as well.

There, i said it.

Recent scientific study about masks and their effectiveness.

On respiratory droplets and face masks

They found that droplets from a simulated uncovered cough were able to travel more than 8 feet; with a bandana they traveled 3 feet, with a folded cotton handkerchief, they traveled 1 foot, 3 inches; and with the cone-style mask, droplets traveled about 8 inches. With the stitched-quilting fabric mask, they traveled 2.5 inches.

There go those damn investment banks again, always pushing the left's, socialist agendas.

Thanks! Even better would be real world examples of cities/localities that have been doing this vs the other 95% that havent.

But but but what about my freedom?? And what about all the people that will die from not getting enough oxygen with those masks on??

The oxygen thing could present a problem for some. Those with COPD or emphysema usualy have low oxygen levels and have seen reports wearing a mask does lower oxygen levels.

Those folks are the ones that need to self shelter given their risk.

Wow. What more motivation do we need at this point to put a piece of cloth over your face when you go inside a public place.

I'm sure it will.

Only problem is there is no vaccine - cure for it so it's something we will have to wear the rest of our lives.
Let's not kid ourselves into thinking there will be one either.

Are you prepared for that?

You actually think the MSM will stop it’s fear assault? They already have the next hot take waiting after masks.

Don't know about cities in the US, but there are TONS of examples of countries worldwide. Asian countries are the easy answer (South Korea, Japan, etc.), but Slovakia is the best European case study.

https://www.euractiv.com/section/co...covid-19-why-slovakia-became-the-trailblazer/

They have had only 5 deaths per million (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/) which is WAY less than any other country in Europe.

How about Taiwan, which is right next door to where this all started as an example of the impact of masks? Everyone there wears them outside their home. CoVID-19 first appeared there in January. They have 23 million citizens and as of June 4 Taiwan has recorded just 443 cases and 7 deaths. Of those cases 342 were from people who had traveled outside the country.

Is it fear mongering when the media reports that Dr. Fauci fears the US may have 100,000 cases a day soon? Is it the MSM’s fault that hospitals in Texas are filling up? That positive tests in Fla have increased 5 fold in 2 weeks?

Maybe it is just reporting the facts.
