In a JV football game tonight, Team A punted the ball and after traveling roughly 30 yards through the air it hit the ground and would have gotten a huge roll but hit a referee stopping the football. The referee then through a flag calling a block in the back on the return team. At this point neither team had touched the football and the whistles blew. The referees marked the ten yards off against Team B from the original line of scrimmage resulting in a first down for Team A.
Is this correct?
The block in the back was after the ball was punted but the referees answer was Team B never gained possession.
