Holiday Bowl canceled tonight

Charmin soft is cancelling an event over a virus that has minimal adverse effects on healthy people under the age of 25.... Especially one that has a 99% survival rate.... What's next we cancel because of the flu? Sinus Infections? ..... Good grief.
97% survival rate.
50k annual deaths due to influenza vs 750K for Covid-19 in the US.

I do agree that it’s time to move forward though. With vaccination rate, we’re inching closer and closer to the endemic stage.

My question is how do they know the whole position group has it? Did they all come down with a cough and fever this morning so they got tested? If so then fine, cancel it because the whole DL is sick and in need of treatment. Or are they all completely asymptomatic but were tested needlessly this morning anyway? If so then they're idiots for testing asymptomatic players the day of the game. Hospitals aren't testing asymptomatic doctors and nurses and never have
This is what I don't understand.

Is there some sort of threshold? % of a position group that must be able to play? % of team not positive?

Are there certain metrics that, when hit, a team is not allowed to play? Or can a team just say they are hit with Covid and not play?

If metrics are hit, then fine. But if teams can just pull out because they say they can't play then that is a forfeit.

They were down to two interior d lineman and had backup LB converted to nose guard. So if they lost one of those three they're probably not going to be able to go.

Gonna be pissed if this crap happens to us and we lose out in a chance to extend our 10
Game win streak.

Anything can happen, but this seems to be happening more frequently to teams with slimy coaches (Jimbo, Chip Kelly, etc). Campbell seems like he has character and would want his team to compete even if it’s not an ideal situation (I.e starters out). Unlike Jimbo who bails out just because he might get his ass kicked by Wake Forest.

With UCLA pulling this hours before kickoff, this should be a forfeit IMO. And if I'm Dave Doeren at the next media availability, I make that very point without hesitation.

Holiday Bowl officials need to hold a presser and award the trophy to Doeren and NC State.
Can they just award the trophy to NCState only?

Of course, the opting out for the draft and portal plus injuries and COVID have really created a bad situation. I think that I read that ISt had 11 in the portal that is a big chunk of players before you even consider the draft, injuries, and COVID.

It is sad this is happening but don’t suggest college football is alone. NFL postponed games a week ago and probably should have this week. Anyone who watched (sadly, I did) the Chargers and Texans play saw two JV teams matched up because of COVID. NHL cancelled a raft of games this month, alone.

Still, methinks that all 4 CFP teams will somehow manage to field teams for their games. Simply put, those are the only ones that matter. The players, coaches and now the fans know it.

yeah, I don't think most people actually know the definition of DECIMATE.

It means to decrease by 1/10th. so in actuality, it shouldnt lead to not being able to play the game.

But people seem to just like to say a team is decimated, because it sounds much worse than it actually is.
You are referring to the historical definition, sir. The new age definition does in fact mean, "...remove a large percentage of..."

I just googled all that shit

You mean the current definition from those that don't know the actual definition so they just throw it around?

Yeah, DECI - mated Deci meant 1/10th. So do we start saying a decimeter is a big meter?

This X1000.

As another poster said, unless they all woke up with symptoms, and I'm not talking the sniffles, then why the hell would they test them at all the day of the game? It makes no sense. None of this makes sense.

These kids missed Christmas and have been preparing for this game for a month!!! And they cancel the day of the game. Absolutely ridiculous. Hell I think UCLA owes some people some money.

Overuse of the word “decimated” triggers me almost as much as overuse of the word “literally.”

If you still agree with these decisions in the name of “safety” then we aren’t on the same planet. Sorry.

inability to play was due to the protocols in place and
not the virus itself," Bowl Season Executive Director

They were all just at SeaWorld as well. Not a good look.

I was just fvcking around, man. Except for the google part, thats true, I really did have to look it up.

They don't track Flu deaths in the same manner as COVID. If they have the flu and die of a heart attack they list the death as the cause being from the heart attack. Die from a heart attack while positive for COVID and you died from complications caused by COVID. Not Apples to Apples....

I certainly would. I'd do it just to stick it to UCLA.

I would recognize NC State as my Holiday Bowl champion, given the manner in which this was handled by UCLA. This should be a forfeit.
It was my attempt to keep Doeren out of it. NCSU DESERVES to take money from my old bank.

Agree, not the same standards at all and we're long past sanity at this stage. No dline amd they cancel 4 hours before the game??? #candyasses

Schools should be punished and fined at this point. Covid protection is on them. Now open portal transfers need to be stopped or regulated.

Hell of a year for Wolfpack fans and Covid. First the College World Series and now this after traveling to San Diego. UCLA should have to pony up to buy all NCSt players a 2-3 day supply of San Diego's finest hooers
Dang I didn't even consider all the fans that flew across country for this...

This isn't going to end well
