Holiday Bowl canceled tonight

When is the last time prior to 2020 that a game has been cancelled because a position group is sick?

I highly doubt the whole position group is sick. They just didn't want to play, and should be financially punished.
We have never tested asymptomatic players ever.

They don't track Flu deaths in the same manner as COVID. If they have the flu and die of a heart attack they list the death as the cause being from the heart attack. Die from a heart attack while positive for COVID and you died from complications caused by COVID. Not Apples to Apples....
Yep
how many of the 750K died from Covid and how many died WITH Covid. Thats a number that should have been separated.

This is all about liability. It’s an utter joke and beyond ridiculous, but that’s what it comes down to. Until the rules of Covid testing change, college sports are dead.

It means to decrease by 1/10th. so in actuality, it shouldnt lead to not being able to play the game.

Certainly it shouldn’t. But I can think of a group of 6 or 7 players that if taken out I would want us to cancel. So we wouldn’t have a blowout loss.

If a player is symptomatic at the bowl site they test. Through contact tracing I'm sure other DL were tested. Also asymptomatic and PREsymptomatic are different things. Just because you're asymptomatic doesn't mean you will not eventually have symptoms.
Really?

You mean you might 'catch something' in a day or two, or week or two that you don't happen to have right now?

Cutting edge science right there

I thought with all the restrictions in California, it was impossible to get COVID.

These guys don’t have COVID 19. They have a form for the coronavirus. Big difference.

At this point, saying “safety first” is a BS cop out. This isn’t about safety. It’s about appearances only.

If all of UCLAs DLineman tore their ACLs they morning of game day, could they cancel the game? I think not. Man up and play with what you have or forfeit.

Remember when Maryland played a LB at QB against us because they didn't have anybody else? What happened to those days?

Move a back up OL over there and play the game you bunch of sissies.

97% survival rate.
50k annual deaths due to influenza vs 750K for Covid-19 in the US.

I do agree that it’s time to move forward though. With vaccination rate, we’re inching closer and closer to the endemic stage.
This varient has a survival rate of well over 99%. I think the hospitalzation rate is 1%

Sounds convenient.

And why do you think that is?

I’ll tell ya- vaccines
I'm fully vaccinated. My wife is fully vaccinated. My mother is fully vaccinated. Everyone in my family is vaccinated. Did I say anything negative about vaccines?

Below age 65 99.9% survival rate.

Overall there is 99.8% survival rate.

But we are endemic ... the vax only works for 2-3 months for Delta - none on Omicron.

We have 700K excess deaths. Average age of COVID death - 80 and average age of all deaths is 79.5. This means that 30-40% of deaths would have happened anyway in the next year. Also ...
- Suicides are way up
- Drug overdoses are way up
- Alzheimers deaths up
... not to mention other

So we probably have about 400K deaths. This 800K number is completely bogus - have to compare to baseline deaths from 2015-2019 and substract out excess deaths that are not relevant to COVID that are up.

if we get cancelled tomorrow, PLEASE get Dave D on the phone and lets play the wolfies again.

no fancy bowl game, lets just settle this

they have a ways to go before challenging us in the ACC

No shit. That and viruses have to morph as to not kill the host.

The way we are currently handling this virus is insane. We will pack the stands but we won’t let non-sick elite athletes or guys with sniffles play football?!? Most of whom are vaccinated. It’s crazy.

Nc state wants a replacement. Has til Jan 5 per rules , hate state but they deserve a chance to play. Sorry to much bourbon trying to type is a challengee

People who still think this is OK and support the amount of testing that is forced on our country must really live life scared. The survival rate was 99% prior to vaccines and will continue to be that high with vaccines. Time to move on. Forcing these athletes to test and forcing quarantine is tired, old, and it is beyond time to remove masks, stop the testing, and live normally. These kids don’t deserve this shit nor do the fans.
