- mortgage interest deduction
- state and local deductions
- taxing 401(K)s upfront and capping contributions

I will bite. You may be confusing the "who" in this rationalization. The items you mentioned are eliminated to support the tax cuts for the wealthy, not the middle class that utilizes these deductions annually.

I will support any tax plan that reduces the tax burden on any hardworking American regardless of age, sex, gender, race, income...

Taxing labor was for a war. Long overdue to be replaced by a consumption based tax sice we are a consuming nation.

What is doing so increases the deficit by over a trillion dollars? How is that in any way conservative?
