I cannot tell a lie, Clemson football was making me miserable. I think most of you would nod in agreement that my actions here were obnoxious and emotionally driven. Watching a slow death of something you love is hard to do, but I took some time to shake that crap out. Here are a few takeaways from my reset:
1. I don’t love Clemson because of football. We’ve sucked before and we’ll suck again. I love Clemson because it’s where I spent an incredible 4 years. I love Clemson because I made most of best friends there. I love Clemson because it feels so much like home.
2. I got to live through the Golden Years of Clemson Football. For the rest of my life I’ll get to remember how great it felt to watch us win 2 national championship and countless big games. Deshaun, Trevor, Wilkins, Nuk, Sammy, CJ, Tajh, etc are all lifelong legends that I got to watch live.
3. Dabo is doing it his way, and I’d rather have him than not. We’re not a great football team anymore and that’s ok. Dabo is representing my alma mater well and launching good men into the world. His decisions around hiring a staff, play calling, recruiting, etc all drive me nuts but I still love the man. I want to be an elite team in the process of cultivating good things, but college football has changed and we won’t be one of the teams that evolves with it. That’s a tough pill to swallow but life will go on.
All that to say, I hope a fresh perspective will allow us all to enjoy the years ahead a bit more. Go Tigers
