I will be shocked if this season goes off as planned

Dude was passing along stats for current patents in he hospital. You calling him a liar?
Nope-not calling him a liar. I hope he was worried about his patients and not patents though. I asked him to explain the situation.

To my knowledge he has not answered, but he will be pleased that you carry his water.

I pose this question respectfully…

studies show Pfizer vaccine is only 46% effective against delta variant. Moderne was around 61% I believe. Vaccines only help with symptom severity, NOT contagiousness. Therefore it’s a coin flip and I will still infect others even if vaccinated.

why should I get one?

I'm a hospital physician, ER and hospitalist, and let me say I'm not an alarmist. I've been skeptical of media overhype of this virus from the beginning. And I was 100% for opening everything and ending mask mandates. BUT this delta variant has been a game changer. We are in the middle of the surge crisis we all feared 18 months. My hospital is full of Covid patients. Our ER and every major ER in our area is on diversion. There are NO open ICU beds in the 7 hospital MUSC system that I work in. It is a crisis across the state. I'm afraid it is only a matter of time until the government feels they need to do something. I hate it and really want life to go on but it's hard to see them not doing anything.
The "surge" is the jabbed.....the jab is the delta variant. If the PCR test can't distinguish between the FLU and COVID, then how the hell do they have a test for a variant of the same virus? Pay attention...use that brain!

You've already answered your question.

Hey doc, I have a question for you if you have the time to respond.

You say you're not an "alarmist", yet you seem to be alarmed...but I digress.

I would just like for you to respond to my particular situation. No one in my household of 4 has been vaccinated. This COVID crap has been around for at 18 months, and if the real truth ever comes out, closer to two years.

How would you explain none of us being tested positive for the virus (I think my wife had it in Feb of last year before there were even test)? We are led to believe by our "leaders" that everyone is going to get this if we don't get the shot.

Why have I not already got the virus? Within a week of this virus starting, I was living my life as normal. I obeyed the directives, but only wore a mask where it was mandatory. I'm over 50, overweight, and have other issues, but I have never had Covid.

What say you?
What say I? I say great I'm happy for your family. Of course not everyone has tested positive, there are 330 million Americans. Many people haven't gotten it. Nothing in my post encouraged anybody to do anything. I just said I'd be surprised if the state doesn't make new restrictions. That's it. But this surge is different than the last one.

Gonna regret asking, but what was the question?

And why are you so angry?

When we have strongly positive swabs, they are sent to MUSC for further analysis. Most all we have in our hospital are delta variants.

Not sure where you work but PRISMA (where my wife works) is reporting similar updates/numbers internally. This isn't the media. It's people on this board in the profession giving you real, unbias, information.
Hey man it’s my choice. I know what’s best for me regardless of what medical professionals say.

Look, I'm just having fun because the Dunning Kruger effect is in full force in this thread and it's cracking me up.

I knew the teenager thing would trigger you ;)

I absolutely don't want to tell you how to live your life. My crusade is for responsibility, not control. So, if it were up to me, we would let people choose to not get vaccinated but then they would be deprioritized in terms of hospital access so that cancer patients and people needing care wouldn't suffer. Look how stupid the situation has become in hotspots, this guy was shot 6 times last week and can't have surgery because covid patients took up all the beds

Innocent passer-by shot 6 times waiting for surgery for a week

Then health insurance companies could also recoup additional cost from people that chose to take that risk and ended up in the ICU, etc. If you want to protect your freedom, well fine, but I don't want to pay higher premiums because of your decisions.

So, don't get vaccinated, I honestly don't care, but don't come ask me and society to cover for your stupidity, sorry, choice, when you are at the hospital.
I'm trying to keep this civil, but you just try to dig. You think you are smarter than me because you went to school for a long time. In your case, probably a really long time.

You missed the point of my question to the DR (to which he has not responded as of yet).

What about natural immunity? Some of you got the shot, and then the shot, and now you're gonna have to get another "booster" shot.

I've got TIGER BLOOD, which doesn't get infected. What next?

Damn, who knew Charlie Sheen was on TI? How’s the aids going?

Dr. Faux-chi is a doctor too. You gonna stand behind everything he has said too?
I really don’t know how Fauci comes into this. I’m not saying I stand behind what OP was saying just because of his credentials. I am a paying member of a Clemson message board, and so is this guy. He’s reporting things from the front lines of this. He’s probably several degrees of separation closer to me (and the local conditions in South Carolina) than Fauci. He’s not a political figure like Fauci either.
So this has nothing to do with Fauci or credentials. He’s a fact witness who I would tend to give more credence to given the fact he has whatever psychopathic condition I have that makes me keep visiting this message board.

You could be wrong BUT I fully subscribe to the notion we should all decide for ourselves and respect the opinions of others. Problem is everybody wants to be right.
What do the medical professionals gain by sharing this info? There’s no agenda here. This is their livelihood.

We’re beyond right or wrong. It’s common sense at this point.

Sounds like your fatass is dodging bullets. Congrats on the impending diabetes and cardiovascular disease though.

Really? Bc most of the people I know are unvaccinated & have no intention getting the shot…or multiple shots…or multiple shots plus the booster…& so on & so forth…
shocking that most of the people in your trailer park are unvaccinated

What do you say about natural immunity?

I'm not a troll, and I'm trying to be as serious as I can about this. I was not trying to make light of anything you said before.

My point was, this virus has been politicized from the beginning. How does anyone know what to believe?

I'm not "anti-vax". I've been in the military for over 20 years. Who knows what kinda crap I've had injected into my body. I'm eventually going to have to get the shot. Our "leaders" have said as much.

All I'm saying is 2+2 doesn't equal 4 in this case. It just doesn't add up.

Ok I see. I meant just to end the conversation. I usually don’t participate in these vaccine threads and got sucked in. Have a good one.
My apologies. I didn’t mean to come across as a dick towards you. I just feel for these medical prof. This shit is never ending. And they’re practically begging us to help them and our hospitals by getting vaccinated.

Apologies again.

Oh no need to apologize. You weren’t a dick.

My daughter goes to a private K-12 school with approximately 275 students. They were social distanced in class with masks in common areas. They never had to quarantine a grade. The only students that ever quarantined were due to after school athletic competitions or practices.

While they used CDC guidance, they relied on a local pediatrician to help prepare them and stayed in contact with him throughout the year. We were certainly blessed for her “normal” year.
My kids had a normal year last year at private school. This year is a hot mess so far.

Hospital system where I am a doc posts daily updates. Today’s update

86% of positive are unvaccinated
95% of positive ICU cases are unvaccinated
Average patient age is 60
50% ventilator usage
105 ICU beds occupied, 9 available

The current graph showing occupied beds, staffed and Covid 19 positives is at about 80% of the our January 11 peak
Since you have stats, how about post the most important stat......BMI.
What percentage of vents are fats? What percentage of vax'd and unvax'd were fats? Media doesnt want to hurt anyone's feeling (unless you're a conservative) but that the real health "crisis" in the country.

I will stop digging, it was a bit immature of me, you are right to try and keep things civil.

I disagree with you on the schooling thing. Common sense doesn’t have a lot to do with school. It’s easy to acquire knowledge in school but it’s just theory. My father in law and brother have very little formal schooling ( worked in agriculture from young age) and yet have the most common sense of all the people I know. I use them as sounding board quite a bit.

People have biases and it prevents them from being truly reasonable. Which leads to people talking at each other. I’ve grown tired of it and been more vocal on the board to call out fundamental inconsistencies in reasoning But I know very well none of my posts will change anybody’s mind at this point, people are very entrenched.

Hopefully we get back to talking football with a win against UGA and focus on the one thing that unites us on this board.

Go Tigers!

No it's not common sense.

For every fact you give, there is another point/study that proves the opposite.

Still hitting the elderly the most it seems, I thought I read previously the younger crowd was impacted far greater with the delta variant than before.

Also, is there any % of the 86% positive-unvaccinated that had Covid prior to being admitted?
It does affect the younger crowd more. Instead of chance of dying being .00000001, it's up to .00000002. Dbl the rate as before.

But hey, let's go back to virtual. Nothing at all to be gained from socializing and in person learning.🙄

I have the stats that are emailed to me. I posted those. I’m happy to no longer share if the information I have is upsetting people.

One of my best friends was a 64 year old veterinarian who constantly emailed me to not take the vaccine. I’m a dentist. Absolutely no way I could see my patients without doing so. He chose to take ivermectin and Vit D and Azithromycin instead. His unvaccinated son in law gave him and his wife the virus. He refused to go to the hospital for 5 days while bed ridden. By the time his family forced him in to a car. There was no ICU bed available in Charleston. Even though they thought it too late the doctors gave him plasma and antivirals. After two weeks on a Bipap he needed a feeding tube and vent. He made it 12 hours. He died alone among people that really didn’t like him But did their job. I miss him. I wish I would have been more forceful in my disagreements with him on taking the vaccine. His 50 year old wife recovered.

Interesting. Would you characterize these individuals as generally healthy or would they fit within the scope of one or more of the previously mentioned underlying conditions that would cause them to be more susceptible?
This time I have several in the hospital who were previously quite healthy. Now, they aren't extremely sick they just need oxygen hopefully for a few days. I've got one really sick 41 year old with no health problems but she is overweight.

Lol, well we played verbal judo and you won ;) I was calling for reasonable thinking while displaying unreasonable behavior (being an asshole with my digs). You were the bigger man and didn’t let our discussion degenerate. So, what can I say, tip of the hat to you ;)

More seriously, stay safe, whatever your decision ends up being.

Thank you for your service (and I mean that).
Thank you sir. My job is to make sure there are warheads on foreheads of OUR enemies. That is my job! That's what I do.

I only wish our "politicians" took the same oath that I did...oh, wait, they did.

This is incredibly sad

My adopted Mexican son ( became a US Citizen July 8th 21 years after walking across the Rio Grand at age 16) has 3 landscape crews.

Roughly 12 guys( ages 20 to 36) and they all got it last week. All were out of work last week. No one went to hospital and all are back at work this week. There is not a one of them that I would fight. All flat bellies.

Except one.

Alfredo is 50lbs overweight, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

They expect him to die in the next couple of days when they finally have to put him on the respirator.
Ding, ding ,ding. But instead, so that everyone feels good about themselves, we have models morbidly obese in the SI swimsuit issue. All that does is discourage healthy eating and exercise.

HUGE THANKS to all in the healthcare industry speaking in this thread. You all are heroes. Flat out. I respect and appreciate you all more than I can put into words.

It's so hard living in the South where unvaccinated people are half the people I know. It just makes zero sense and is so damaging and selfish.
Instead of just "the south", why dont u look up (and then comment) on the vax rate for African Americans??
