and nobody cared because we had bigger problems with inflation to deal with but we often fantasized about owning an American car.

Now it looks like Toyota will not be selling the updated Land Cruiser in the USA. The first thing to go in an inflation economy is the fine toilet paper and luxury mall yachts.

Have known this for a while, but it’s disappointing. I have a land cruiser and it’s time to upgrade. I had been planning to buy the 300 series when it came out. Now I’ll have to switch brands and models, and there’s really not much out there I like.

Had to travel to Rio to work for a few weeks in the '90s.

Knew enough Spanish to get by and function ok enough in other countries in the Americas if I didn't give a damn about the other person's ears and took a few liberties with correct grammer.

Speaking Brazilian Portuguese, however, killed me. I just couldn't get it straight in my head. Even with a few weeks of a crash course. I was 100% worthless.... and pretty much settled on Spanish / Spanglish as the best solution with a lot of apologizing.

All the nouns are different in Portuguese so the two languages are very different. I speak Portuguese but can barely understand Spanish.

slow sales

I don’t understand that. There’s 5+ in my neighborhood and I don’t live in a big neighborhood. My neighbor and I both have one. I see them everywhere for a somewhat “rare” vehicle.

Amazing blend of luxury, but not flashy. Full size, but not cumbersome. Rugged, but comfortable.

Not sure what I’ll get now. I think the vast majority of vehicles on the road suck.

They last forever, plus lack of upward mobility. My rich uncle has owned one for 30 years, the same one.
