For a program with as much history and national titles as they do, they seem like quite the enigma in the ACC landscape yet again in the 2015 season. They aren't being arrested or showing up in national headlines lately like Female Smacking University does but is that a sign of lesser talent or a sign of a tighter run ship? Or both?
Not one player from miami made the ACC pre-season first team. I mean....just wow. Not even Phil Steele has a single guy on 1st team preseason ACC. There was a time such statements being uttered about ACC football would have been met with absolute ridicule and laughter. It would have been considered virtually impossible with their NFL draft track record. Yet here we are. Miami picked to finish 6th.
I suppose I'm posing the question in part b/c miami does indeed have talent...and experience...just not from guys who are as much household names as of today and it will be curious if that plays to their advantage. Brad Kaaya at QB can be a good QB when he's on. Yearby is a dangerous RB with big play ability and Mark Walton (6.0 4-star RB) is joining the fold. Their WRs are a mix of a lot of juniors and seniors with an influx of young guys (Coley, Berrios, 6'5" FR Lawrence Cager, etc). The OL is thought to be the best part of their team with talented guys such as KC McDermott, Darling, young guys Tyree St Louis and returning experience esp at center. They want to run the ball and smash teams with the OL and RB guys....and if they can, it would seem to make Kaaya that much better of a QB.
The defense even has 5-star DE Chad Thomas, 6.0 rated DE Mohommed, 5.9 rated DT Moten, a slew of JR and SR guys in the secondary including 5-star CB Tracy Howard and 5.9 rated CB Deon Bush. In short, there is a lot of talent on that team and almost NOBODY is paying them much attention at all.
They play @fsu and host VT leading up to the visit from CLEMSON. If miami gets past a meh nebraska team early on, they will have a nice little record when this game comes around (5-1 perhaps). They will be tested none the less. Imagine the high they will be on if they manage to play inspired at fsu and defeat a Maguire led team? Golson would show up in a heartbeat. Fsu isn't even challenged leading up to that game (toughest game is @BC...else cupcakes). And miami gets 9 days to prepare for fsu.
Next step for miami in 2015 or more of the same 300 people at home games and a pile of Al Golden mediocre results?
