Jeff Scott spent a good 40 minutes chatting with the media. Some of his more interesting observations:
-- He made a good point I hadn't considered: Some of the inconsistency with Deshaun Watson's deep ball is related to their depth at receiver. When you are rotating in seven guys, unprecedented during Scott's time at Clemson, it takes some adjusting to the different ways receivers come out of their breaks, etc.
-- On the topic of WR depth: That long touchdown by Artavis Scott came on Scott's 39th snap. For the cornerback covering him, it was his 63rd snap. That's a huge advantage. Seven WRs played at least 20 snaps against BC.
-- More praise for Watson after his check at the line that produced the long catch-and-run to Deon Cain. Said Cain was in the slot, and Scott just sort of held his breath after Watson alerted Scott that he was about to change the play. The initial play was called thinking BC would be in Cover 1. They were in Cover 2, so Watson noticed it and changed the play. Looking forward to breaking this one down in this week's video review.
-- Of the four freshman receivers, just one played receiver in high school (Trevion Thompson). That says a lot for what Cain and Ray-Ray McCloud have been able to do this year. Not to mention Hunter Renfrow, who played QB at Socastee HS.
-- Said Cain is a gamer. Said he's had a few over the years who haven't been great practice players but who just become different players when the lights come on.
-- Said Miami's secondary is elite. Reminds him a lot of Clemson's. Said the receivers won't just be able to run by these guys as they have with other defensive backs this season.
