This is making the rounds on the interwebs (Twitter, etc.) This is a 10-minute preview of a documentary to be released next year about how disinformation and social media have widened the divide and fueled partisanship. They had a number of conservatives express their thoughts and concerns, including Joe Walsh who said he was Trump before Trump.
I found the bit about "reflexive control" informative. It really puts in perspective how sites like Infowars, Gatewaypundit can be leveraged to perform disinformation at scale. A lot of times, I see people saying Fox and company lie simply because it's good for business, but this seems to point to a higher aspiration in terms of public control.
Any thoughts from people on both sides of the spectrum? I am particularly interested in the MAGA view because I think this is a chicken and egg problem. Is disinformation really the cause of our problems (where people are rational agents and disinformation perverts them), or is disinformation simply meeting a need (people want to be lied to because they are partisan to begin with, they simply want positive reinforcement)?
