Democrats aren't in power, didn't vote him in and didn't have anything to do with the call to vacate. Stop your dumb attempt to make them guilty of something they aren't responsible for.
They could have voted to keep McCarthy in place. I’m somewhat surprised they didn’t, but obv they know more than us about potential replacements

If you've paid attention to what he's blamed them for and the things he's done, including the impeachment inquiry, he has given them no reason to save his ass. He's just a nicer, cleaned up version of his master Trump.

Fair enough. I just don't want retards Gaetz, MTG, or handjob Boebert in more prominent roles
Oh, I don't think this will make that more likely as the new speaker will still need 218 votes and no way in hell those characters could get that kind of support. The party is actually looking for a way to oust Gaetz now and plan to remove him if the ethics investigations against him confirm his seedy behavior.

I get the freedom caucus' point, but they have the political instincts of a bag of toenail clippings. They get rid of McCarthy without a plan.

Gaetz is the worst, he pushed to vote against a CR a week ago that would have led to more cuts, then complained about the CR that just passed, which came with only Ukraine money cut. What did you think was going to happen, dummy? A shut down wasn't going to work (See Ted Cruz's Obamacare debacle) and Republicans would have gotten blamed (which you don't want going into an election year).

This is more personal than anything else, and he forced the whole party to quit a job, before they have another one set up...and neutered the only lever of power that R's have.

What a sh*t show.

Not sure knowledge of replacements even matters. This was an easy way to let the pubs walk themselves into calamity. Like Wile E Coyote running off a cliff with an anvil parachute and all the road runner had to do was step aside.

Nancy Mace among the republicans that voted to remove McCarthy. She has been rising up in my estimation lately.

I think the only reason McCarthy allowed Pelosi to keep the Speaker’s hideaway office is b/c she had leverage on him She either knew of potential affair(s) or his dirty deals with Sequoia Capital and said “you work for me now” Think about that We took the House but Pelosi still kept the Speaker’s office McCarthy was working for Pelosi the entire time That’s why nothing got done except performative theater Insane

That you think that is the most insane part of all. May want to learn some things about the structure of American government.

It appears the last straw for Democrats was his statement on Face the Nation blaming them for the delay, right after their votes just helped him stave off the shutdown.

Democrats said they could not trust McCarthy

"Democrats were united against McCarthy Tuesday. The backbreaker may have come this past weekend, after they supplied the votes to head off a shutdown. The next morning on “Face the Nation,” blamed Democrats for delaying tactics.

To survive, McCarthy needed the trust of Democrats and the respect that went with it.

Many Democrats could simply not erase the memory of January 2021. During the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, McCarthy told President Trump to “call these people off.” He said “they’re your people.” A few days later, he said Trump “bears responsibility” for the attack.

Reports said he told colleagues he would urge Trump to resign before his term ended, and he supported a formal censure of the president.

Two weeks later, McCarthy joined Trump in Florida, and they were photographed smiling. Trump issued a statement that he “has agreed to work with Leader McCarthy on helping the Republican Party to become a majority in the House.”

Change has to start somewhere.

Change for the sake of change is utter chaos. The Freedom Caucus and people around it are impossible to work with. They either rubber stamp or just look the other way when a Republican President is running up huge deficits, but then bring the issue out when a Democrat is in charge. It's so intellectually dishonest and it delegitimizes any belief by a true fiscal conservative that this problem can be brought under control.

Further, the spending issue is based on lies and distortions. Most people do not seem to realize where the problems are because they don't take the time to understand the issue fully. But there's so much more than that. House GOP candidates ran on fixing the ACA and when they held both houses of Congress and the presidency, they did nothing. They didn't have a plan in the way they promised they did. They don't have a plan on immigration. They don't have a plan for deficits and debt. They don't have a plan for education. They don't have a plan for dealing with any of the pressing issues facing our nation. Hence they get nothing done and then blame McCarthy for it. That's just terrible by any measure and it's yet another failure of leadership.

There are serious challenges facing this country. The only thing worse than Republican leadership is Democrat leadership. Politics is about so many things and one of them is the understanding of what's possible and working toward winning the argument about that. That has no role how things run anymore. It's both sides enraging constituencies about what's so wrong and using that rage to gain support for electoral hopes. No where in there is the acknowledgment this is a relatively evenly divided country and that we're going to have to work together to get anything done.

Want to start leading? How about we start by winning the argument that it's time to put our country over our parties and start doing things to solve the ever increasing mountain of problems we face? I'm against government doing much of anything because there's always someone who says with any problem, "Do something!" That's not a strategy and it's not something that's worked well for anyone. For the areas where government does have a role in solving problems, how about we work toward a policy that both parties can agree upon and have a plan to create solutions that are more enduring that every two or four years?

I just posted a tweet. It would not surprise me if true at all. I think blackmail is a huge part of what is occurring in the highest levels of govt.

So are you saying that we need leaders who have actual moral fortitude and live lives that fit the moral standards they seek to uphold? And who exactly are you toting the banner for? Didn't you just advocate for Nancy Mace a little earlier?

I am not looking for a saint obviously or I wouldn't support DJT the way I do, but I would not want blackmail controlled people making big decisions for the nation either. There has to be a reason that Pelosi still had that office imo.

Other past speakers have had private offices. She didn't have the speaker's office. She had a private office. That's not inappropriate based on past precedent. Your "source" added a description to that office that didn't fit. There is no speaker's hideaway office at this time. Of course, these people know their audience and know that red meat is welcome and will be believed. It's so disheartening to see how the right has become just as ravenously uninformed as the left.

It's called tradition and she made the point that she allowed former Speaker Hastert to occupy a large suite of offices for as long as he wished and it wasn't because he could blackmail her. But to add insult to injury, he ordered her to be out today while she's still in California for Feinstein's funeral. It's petty partisanship intended simply to cause her pain.

Please enlighten us then. Why is she having to vacate the office now?

Because he's being petty and vindictive.
But still why did McCarthy leave her in that office all this time and now she gets removed right after he was removed? McHenry is reportedly McCarthy's right hand man so this doesn't make sense upon the surface.

Simple - because he is blaming the Democrats for ousting his bestie.

You have no room to talk anyway since speculation is your middle name.
Dude, please get outside your echo chamber.

"Speakers traditionally give their predecessors access to “hideaway” offices near the House floor after they step down.

On Tuesday, Pelosi’s Republican successor as speaker, Kevin McCarthy, was politically defenestrated by hard-right figures in his own party, the first speaker ever removed in such fashion.

McCarthy accorded Pelosi the usual office-based courtesy but amid Republican anger over Democrats’ refusal to support McCarthy against his rightwing rebellion, McHenry made the order to evict.

According to Politico, an email from a Republican aide to the House administration committee told Pelosi: “Please vacate the space tomorrow, the room will be re-keyed.”

The office, the site said, would be reassigned for “speaker office use”.

Please enlighten us then. Why is she having to vacate the office now?

Because the group of Republicans who sought this are being really childish. Petty behavior in politics goes no where good. Pelosi is the queen of pettiness and I'm sure this is tit for tat. Unfortunately, that kind of behavior ends in a devolving disaster every time. We just don't need that.

That's without going into the reality that Republican stupidity is very likely to give that office right back to the Democrats in a little over a year at this point.

208 democrats voted with the radical right
Lol you wanted them to vote for a republican speaker. Y? This is a gop shit show. They expected Mccarthy to reach out to them. He didn't. This is alllll maga.
