How many here would be satisfied with the following scenarios?
A) Leggett is retained WITH a contract extension BUT Pepicelli is replaced as the pitching coach? (Assume here that Clemson "spares no expense" on his replacement and that new pitching coach is a well established and well respected assistant who also happens to be a quality fielding instructor and recruiter).
B) Leggett is retained withOUT a contract extension (i.e. if 2016 is another mediocre season he is finished with his contract and done at Clemson) and Pepicelli is replaced as the pitching coach? (Assume here that Clemson "spares no expense" on his replacement and that new pitching coach is a well established and well respected assistant who also happens to be a quality fielding instructor and recruiter).
C) Leggett is retained with a "Head Coach in Waiting" (assume this is someone we'd all be thrilled over, i.e. Tim Corbin as a mere example of universal acceptance) hired to replace Pepicelli and it is stated outright that 2016 will be Leggett's last year and the HCIW will take over in 2017 with Leggett having no further direct involvement with the baseball program.
D) Leggett is retained with a "Head Coach in Waiting" (assume this is someone we'd all be thrilled over, i.e. Tim Corbin as a mere example of universal acceptance) hired to replace Pepicelli and the term of this arrangement is left open as to when the HCIW will take over.
For me, A) and D) are not acceptable since both give Leggett a potentially unlimited "shelf life" as Clemson's head coach. I would not be happy with B) but I'd begrudgingly deal with that. To me, C) is the best option (if change now is not on the table and here I have intentionally excluded that).
