We are officially at the midway point of the season. I say we take time to look back and throw out some honors.
Offensive MVP: Wayne Gallman
Who ever would have thought it wouldn't be Watson? He has struggled some this year, and I believe we can make a case that Gallman or Scott could be our offensive MVP. I'm giving Gallman the nod, because he is averaging 5.5 yards a carry.
Honorable Mentions: Scott, Watson
Defensive MVP: Mac Alexander
I really struggled with this one. I think a case could be made for Boulware or especially Lawson. I think Alexander shutting down half the field has made everyone else's job easier. It has allowed our safeties to play up closer to the line of scrimmage and create more havoc. Stopping the run is easier because we are able to stack the box and leave Mac on an island for 85 percent of the game.
Honorable Mention: Lawson, Boulware
Offensive Newcomer: Mitch Hyatt
I remember thinking our season may be over after hearing Battle was gone. A true freshman playing the most important position behind QB. He has done outstanding. He will anchor our line for years to come.
Honorable Mention: Renfrow, Cain
Defensive Newcomer: Christian Wilkins
The impact he has made as a true freshman is crazy. Already a full grown man, he has been making plays since day one. Will be one of the best ever to come through here on the d-line.
Honorable Mention: ?
Most Improved: Kevin Dodd
I was extremely worried about this position heading into the season. He has blossomed and became a pure impact player. Many doubted him (including me), but he has been a beast opposite Lawson all year now.
Assistant Coach of the Year: Veneables
This man is a genius. A better hire by Dabo than Morris. He has completely transformed this defense. He has game planned perfectly for every opponent this season.
