Would it have been beneficial for DJ to have experienced summer practices in a live/full contact setting? I know they did this with Watson when he first came to camp (however he did end up getting hurt in practice). It seems to me that DJ could have benefited from live action in the pocket/scramble scenarios during practice. In last night’s game DJ was essentially a deer in headlights when a Georgia defensive player came within arms length of him. Which in practice is basically when the coaches blow the whistle.
This might be something the coaches should look at going forward in order to improve DJs pocket presence. Or at least an interesting question to ask the staff in the next press conference. Fans and coaches both have taken for granted DW and Trevor’s ability to navigate a pocket and make a play with their footwork.
