The media were allowed to hang out at practice for a little while today. A few of the more interesting things I picked up:
-- Wayne Gallman has really built his physique over the past few months. Noticeably thicker, and cut. He's sort of the forgotten guy, as strange as that is to say about someone who came on so strongly toward the end of last season. But don't be surprised if he's your starter by the time the start of the season rolls around. I remember playing golf with Chad Morris at last summer's Dabo Swinney media golf outing, and Morris was asked off-the-record who would be the Tigers' leading rusher at the end of 2014. His reply: "Wayne Gallman." And this was before Zac Brooks suffered his foot injury, so they were quite high on him at the time. And the good feelings about him have only intensified this offseason.
-- Last week Tony Elliott said Kelly Bryant is still trying to refine himself as a passer. But don't let that fool you into thinking he's a project as a thrower. The kid showed off some impressive velocity during today's pass skels, and he was also accurate.
-- An update on the early-enrolled freshman offensive linemen: Today Mitch Hyatt was at left tackle. Jake Fruhmorgen was at right tackle. Noah Green also played left tackle. Zach Giella is getting a lot of work at center.
-- Injury update: Milan Richard had a big cast on his left foot and ankle. Jadar Johnson was in yellow today and wasn't practicing with the team. Not sure what's up there, but it doesn't look like a major deal. Adam Choice continues to progress in his recovery from ACL surgery. His limp appears less pronounced than when the Tigers began spring practice.
-- Jeff Scott, Tony Elliott, Tyler Carlton and Tyler Grisham sported big boxing gloves during the flex period as they tried to punch footballs out of the grasp of receivers and running backs.
-- The two guys returning punts early in practice were Germone Hopper and Ryan Carter.
-- A few former Tiger luminaries were in attendance today: C.J. Spiller, Tajh Boyd, Robert Smith.
We'll have more from interviews after practice in a bit. Also, Dan Radakovich is scheduled to have a session with reporters at 5:30 today. Nothing pressing on his agenda; just a semi-regular opportunity to visit with the press.
