I wish I could tell you guys that he was whining, making excuses, and crying sweet sweet delicious bitter tears BUT ... he was very classy. He sent the following email yesterday
Heartbroken, Devastated. I really believed the Irish would win this game and then to make a comeback late and fall short totally sucks. The better team Sat night was Clemson as they made more plays and earned the win. Clemson outplayed ND big time in the first half and was up 21-3 early in the second half. ND was never able to run the ball. Both teams scored 3 TD's and 1 FG but the two failed two point conversions among many other things was our doom.
Richardisms that came true.
- It would take a while for ND to adjust to the atmosphere especially the young QB:
True and not being able to establish the run was critical. Kizer was 19-34 for 324yds, 2 TD and 1 pick, 60 yds rushing. But 200 of those passing yards came in the 4th QTR as it took 3 QTR for him to get totally comfortable. Also ND receivers had 6 critical drops which 4 of the 6 were for first downs.
- Clemson front seven will be tuff to run on:
True as ND never established the run and our OL got manhandled many times by the young Clemson DL. Clemson DC had great game plan and it took ND 3 QTR to adjust there game plan and stop trying to run first. Way to long. ND also had 4 turnovers and three were forced by Clemson and none bigger then the Brown forced fumble at the goal line with 2:00 minutes left. I think if we score then we pull out the miracle. But no shoulda, coulda, woulda in football.
- Clemson coaching staff will be prepared:
True as they had a better game plan and ND Kelly and staff were to slow to change on offense. ND Defense played great when you consider they only gave up 10pts after the first seven minutes of the game. But they were on there heals on the first two drives but did adjust after that. But overall ND got outcoached by Dabo and company. Clemson had 297 total yds vs. ND had 437. But ND only had 116 yds rushing and minus Kizer 60 thats only 66 from the RB's. The ND game plan was to run first and the run got stuffed all night. Bad coaching not to adjust sooner young QB or not.
- If Clemson has a two touchdown lead going into the 4th they will win:
They did and they won.
Since Clemson beat the Irish they have a great possibility of going undefeated. I think ND is better than FSU and Clemson has FSU at home. They will be favored in every game. The Irish will continue to win and help Clemson's SOS.
If ND some how wins out they will most likely not make the playoffs. Our strength of schedule has taken a big hit with TX, VA and GT being terrible teams this year. Our only shot was beating Clemson at home as USC Stanford will probally lose more games in the PAC12. We do have a shot at making one of the big six bowls.
Another hard weekend for Hokies and Cocks. Maybe a big transition year regarding head coach.
You have my ass for the next four years until they play again. Sucks, really sucks.
