Need help with TV tailgating set up

I have the option of using either Directv or Dish and I choose Dish because I wanted the Tailgator (supposed to put down and it finds the signal by itself). My buddy and I did a test run at my house in Charleston, and it did not work. We were on the phones with Dish for 2 + hours, and they could not figure it out (actually said that they have never heard of my issue and could not find the problem code that came up on my screen). Needless to say, I despise them and will be returning the equipment.

I found a Directv tripod kit for $153 that includes the SWIM box.

My question is this, how easy is it to find a signal and does anybody tailgate in Lot 8 with one (Sirrine).
