I did not know this was in the works, and I am debating if I should watch or not. I get calls every couple of years for “projects” like this, but always pass on interviews. My emotions are through the roof. I want to see how close it is to what it was really like, but if it is then it will be like reliving it again. If they did their research and have some of the minor characters correct that will be brutal. Only two others got out before April 19th so the rest are no longer with us. Dave had the benefit of controlling his destiny but most of the rest did not.

Are you still in touch with the other 2 folks?

The series has been out for over 2 years. Its just coming to Netflix FYI

One I never spoke to again, but I heard he died of an overdose. The other I contacted through Facebook and appears to have moved on with the next chapter of his life. Obviously we have not made an effort to have a reunion to relive our past but nice to know we both made it to a second chapter.

@JackieChiles your story is one of the most sensational events to happen in the last 60 years. My advise would be to capitalize on it.... share your story, your truth. Get paid for it. If a part of you is uncomfortable with that, then brainstorm a way to use the proceeds for good. Maybe other folks you knew from the BD? One thing is for sure...someone is gonna profit from it, factual or not. Your voice should be heard.

OP has mentioned before being a part of the Waco group back in the day.
Feels appropriate.

Actually I have a good friend that was on flight 1549 and we have had this discussion. He had a young family at the time and everyone including Oprah put the hard press on him, but he passed. He said there were about 5 guys from the 1549 flight that made it their career for the next couple of years to be “survivors” and he wanted no part. We are both doing well today with the exception he is a Michigan die hard. He is has a great life except for Saturdays in the fall.

Remind me not to hang out with you lol. Those are two very memorable moments in recent history

Are you insinuating that most churches have leaders that kill their parishioners?
No I’m suggesting that people “falling for” groups like the Branch Davidians and leaders like David Koresh is not fundamentally different than people subscribing to more mainstream religious practices and beliefs.

Didn't you know? He's the smartest man alive regarding everything in the universe. All others who don't subscribe to his beliefs (or lack thereof) are morons.
I don’t claim to have any divine knowledge as many religious people do claim.

Can we get back to how OP was in the Waco situation?
IIRC he was there for a time but wasn’t there during the siege. I remember him saying that David Koresh was a good guitar player, which is reflected in the series he’s referencing.

Very true statement. In general, people are easily brainwashed into believing just about anything regardless of how batcrap crazy it is. For example...sadly, many are led to believe they must believe a certain way about what and who God is, and if they do not, they're told they'll be tortured forever in a torture chamber called hell after they die...sadly, that level of religious ignorance is supported and practiced daily.

I’m a little lost ... can someone fill me in?

The only Waco I’m aware of is Waco, Texas where that Gaines have that one show and where Baylor is. But it sounds like it’s some church scandal that involved a flight crash???

That is the most insightful thing that has ever come out of Stevie Janowski’s mouth

Who do you believe God is?

And you have no knowledge of whether their beliefs are legitimate. Yet you feel the need to belittle people who believe things that you don't. That's not a sign of intelligence. It's simply a sign of ignorance and smug arrogance.
For the sake of argument let’s agree that I have no knowledge as to whether their beliefs are legitimate. They also have no knowledge as to whether or not their beliefs are legitimate, yet they claim to have diving knowledge given to them by God and know for a certainty that they are correct, to the point that they demand others behave in the way that they believe is correct.

And I’m the arrogant one because I don’t believe they actually have divine knowledge. Got it.

sometimes I forget how old I am; I’m assuming you’re younger. As suggested, Google David Koresh. This put Waco on the map. Unbelievably fascinating...and we have @JackieChiles here at TI to beg for details.

Who demands it? You insult all of those who believe 100% in God, and you give the reason as they demand others behave in a particular way. If someone here "demands you behave in a particular way" call the poster out instead of belittling those who have 100% faith in God. Link to someone demanding these things? Who are you talking about?
