@Willence

This is for you since we have a long running mostly friendly argument about this.

You asked me a while ago to show you a public school district that was poor and was successful. Here it is, Anderson School District One.

SC Ready Scores Reveal Anderson School District One Students Among the Top 5 in the State

The South Carolina College-and Career-Ready Assessments (SC Ready) are statewide assessments in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics given to students in grades 3 through 8 at the end of the school year. Earlier this week, the South Carolina State Department of Education released the results of scores from last year. In every grade level, Anderson One students ranked among the top 5 in SC. In Grade 4 Math, Anderson One students’ scores were the highest in the state.

“I am tremendously proud of the Anderson One students, teachers, staff and parents whose hard work has resulted in tremendous academic success. It is a testament to this community’s belief in education and support of our District that students have the conditions in which they can thrive. We have always believed that Anderson One students are among the best in the state, and the SC Ready scores certainly support that belief.”

Anderson One State Ranking by Grade Level
ELA Math
Grade 3 4 3
Grade 4 4 1
Grade 5 5 3
Grade 6 3 2
Grade 7 2 2
Grade 8 2 2
* An individual student’s score is reported in one of four categories: Does Not Meet Expectations, Approaches Expectations, Meets Expectations, or Exceeds Expectations. Rankings are based on the total percentage of students at each grade level who Approach, Meet, or Exceed Expectations.

Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Instruction Dr. Jeff Wilson added, “Our goal is student success and we give the credit to the hard work of our teachers, staff, and administrators who believe in our students and their potential. Despite being one of the lowest funded school districts in the state and having a poverty index of over 50%, our students performed at extraordinary levels and we could not be more proud of them.”

Anderson One 4th grade math students' scores were the highest in the state and among the 8 elementary schools in Anderson One, Wren Elementary had the highest 4th grade math scores in the district.

Wren Elementary Principal Delaney Sutton had the following to say about her student’s success, “Wren Elementary teachers set high expectations for all students in every area. Our teachers, students, and staff work tirelessly to learn and grow in all areas. Through teacher collaboration, student effort, and parent support, we continuously foster a school culture that focuses on student success and achievement in academics and beyond. Our success is definitely a team effort.”

Wren Elementary 4th grade math teacher Sarah Ulrich works with a small group of students during her math class.

This isn't really what I was talking about. I'm not talking about test scores. Intelligence is one thing but wisdom is quite another. One need only look all around our society to see the failures of our education system. We are a profoundly ignorant people at this point in time.

It isn't about test scores. The tests are dictated by what the curriculum is in public schools. Yet I talk to public school students all the time who don't know their ass from first base when it comes to many basic things. That is evident in things we see all around us whether it be our institutions, the climate in our universities, our ideas and beliefs about things like climate change or just the feckless nature with which we choose to approach almost any moral issue these days. The failure is all around us.

'are ideas and beliefs about things like climate change'

this is what's wrong with society today. being preached to by a guy who doesn't know the difference between our and are. or maybe it was an autocorrect thing?
