THIS IS OFF OF THEIR BOARD !! HOW WRONG THEY ARE!
We all know how good the BC defense has been so no need repeating ourselves here, so let's talk about Heisman candidate Deshaun Watson. At first glance this might be another one of those things where you say "Easier said than done Hoff" in regards to rattling a Heisman candidate. Well, based on Watson's overall stats you'd have a point. However, you need to look beyond the games against Wofford and App State to get a better picture of Watson's season.
There's no doubt that Watson's overall body of work and statistics matched with his team's success puts him in the Heisman picture, but he hasn't been as spectacular as you're being led to believe against Power 5 opponents. Against Louisville, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech, Watson has put up a passing line of 52-for-81 for 548 yards, 6 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. On the ground, Watson ran 34 times for 163 yards. Those are solid numbers but not world beater numbers by any means.
If the BC defensive ends can do their jobs and play contain on the edge it should keep Watson away from running so much option-read and his rollout passes that he loves to throw. If the Eagles can keep Watson in the pocket then it obviously makes him less elusive and dangerous and prone to some big hits. Will Watson be the same quarterback after a few hits from Connor Wujciak or Mehdi Abdesmad? My bet is no.
